I don't like this deal at all, because AS gets all the ticket sales from the game at the Carolina Panthers' stadium and it doesn't count against them as a home game.

Terrible deal all around for ECU and the AAC.

Bank of America deal is not that good anymore. The last time we played South Carolina there the ECU crowd was weak and even South Carolina whose campus is right down the road brought a fairly weak crowd. They kill the student turn out with pricing tickets too high. ECU vs South Carolina game had as many students outside tailgating as we did inside the stadium.

I doubt ECU playing ASU in Charlotte is going to move the needle for our fans to come out of pocket for that game. It is a nice game for a Charlotte Pirates but I would estimate the ECU crowd to be no more than 10k so it is definitely an ASU home game as they will have 75% of the fans in the stadium.

I think we should just do a simple 1-1 game. Many ECU fans don't think we should go to Boone but if Miami did we don't have much of an argument anymore. App St also brings more fans to ECU then almost any team we can schedule. I just hope we get our Football program going before this game is played because right now App St would smoke us. I would actually be more likely to go to a game in Boone then I would in Charlotte

Why would ECU care if App loses a home game to play in Charlotte? Basically it's a 2-2 but App moves one of their home games to Charlotte which I"m sure is preferable to ECU since more tickets should be available. It's about as good of a deal as they were going to get.

Honest question. Has an AAC team ever bought a game from a G5 school or signed a 2-1 with one?

Don't know, but when USF was in the Big East, we got 2-1's with FAU (2 in Tampa), and did a 1-0 with UTEP, where they only came to Tampa, and there may have been others also.

They should split the sales on the Charlotte game, because I think this is a 1-1-1 series, which really ends up being a 2-1 in favor of AS, because the Charlotte game is a de facto home game now, since they get the ticket sale proceeds.

We'll see next week I reckon but I assumed that App getting the gate signalled that there would be two in Greenville and one in Boone. Otherwise, I agree that the gate of Charlotte should be split.

You got your coach from Georgia Southern....who despite having a new coaching staff filled with high school coaches finished ranked higher than Tulane...

App State is in FBS and has been receiving votes in the coaches poll throughout the season and was one defensive series at Troy from being ranked in the AP Poll.

App also takes the gate from Charlotte which will likely sell 40,000 to 55,000 tickets due to a concentration of both ECU and App State alumni around the 85 corridor from Charlotte to the Triangle area.

I doubt many of you truly believe the P6 desire, but for those of you that do, ECU negotiated a better deal with App than both Miami and Wake Forest did. They were both required to play a home game in Boone prior to App traveling to their stadium.

Irrelevant point. ECU wants to play App State, go for it. My original statement remains.

Look around, academically based privates are struggling, big time and Tulane is at the bottom of the list. It sucks.

App takes the gate from the neutral site game in Charlotte. Really is a steal considering more fans will be at this game than the 21,650 that would be in Boone.

This. H&H ok. I can live with that if we can no longer get H&H's with 3 P5's a year like in the past. I don't like a 1-1-1. Advantage Appy. It's a Lose Lose for ECU. Don't get any credit for winning, take crap and lose more in state recruits for losing. Charlotte and App St are bad for ECU, just like UTSA and Texas St are bad for Houston. Look at UTSA's recruiting class. A dozen 3 star recruits from a start up football program. Charlotte will eventually do the same thing; Appy already is. No more FBS schools. And by the way, I'm not one of those P6 people. The sticker is an embarrassment and became a target for the AAC in the bowl games.
Cheers!

Allowing App to take the gate in Charlotte is poor business on our part. A split would have been much more acceptable. Otherwise I have no issue with us playing App.

Miraculous that we would drop under our average attendance against you guys? ECU must just not excite us Mountaineers...

I guess all the ECU fans forget the rivalry days and when ECU tried hard to make it so App was a package deal in order for them to go to CUSA, and still think of App with Jerry Moore as HC with a Kidd Brewer that isnt expanded and 10,000 students less in enrollment, thats a pretty wild selective memory.

No. The App athletics website states Kidd-Brewer's capacity as 21,650. I have no idea what your average attendance is and don't care.

And as I mentioned in another post, I have no issue with playing App. Either in Charlotte or Boone. I just don't think its wise that ECU doesn't split the gate at a neutral site.

The struggle for recruits will only get more difficult as ODU, Charlotte, ASU, JMU etc.. grow. It is the never ending battle over limited resources. We are never going to successfully prevent a school from passing us by not playing them. Heck we have spanked NCST and UNC in recent history but it has little to no impact on or recruiting when we go head to head with them. Coach Montgomery and the staff just have to battle it out for as many 3 stars as they can get and try and steal 2-3 Four stars if they can.

As for ASU ? I like their fans and they travel well. I would actually go to a game in Boone. I would not want to see any more than 4 games scheduled preferably 2 at ECU 1 at ASU and 1 in Charlotte. I would like to see ECU expand their horizon for scheduling looking outside our region. Be nice if we could get back to scheduling Syracuse, Pitt, Miami, and look at different G5 options maybe Air Force, San Diego St, Fresno St, UNLV etc.. and stop playing FCS period. I would rather see 1-2 G5 OOC and 1 winnable P5 1 Quality P5 that we will probably lose to most years but will bring the fans in to watch. We have VT on the schedule for a long time and they are that game for us so it would be nice to schedule a 50-50 shot at winning P5 game and then 1 very winnable G5 if not 2 if we cant find a sister of the poor P5 school to play like Wake, Kansas etc.

I went to ECU and grew up 30 minutes from Boone with family that went to App State. I've visited ECU and NCSU multiple times and ECU has a much more similar feel to App than either of the two Triangle public schools.

Great. The only time in the past ten years that i've been to a game with less than that was for playoff games decided with a weeks notice that were played at noon on Thanksgiving weekend.
