The Dawning of a New Era
Just thought I'd start a thread now that CLF is here and starting to put his mark on our program. Some of this kind of stuff has been posted here and there. Anyways, here are a couple of tweets that I saw today.

Looks like our new conditioning coach is making the most waves. Good.

Why is Mike Boone in a boot? Is that the injury that sidelined him at the end of this past season? Didn't realize it was that serious.

Sweet! I was looking all over for a video. Will have to watch when I get home. For some reason, twitter videos are blocked at work.

Looking at the Tweets from players, and a lot of the stuff from Brady Collins there just seems to be a new life that we may have only seen upon Butch Jones's arrival. I even saw a tweet where a student complained that the players were being too loud at training and Collins responded by saying he hopes the students will be just as loud come game time.

The electricity is officially back on. Fickell and this staff have been like cardiac chest paddles for a flatlining patient on the gurney.

But energy is overrated for some. Lol.

imagine the energy if he had brought Coombs along with as well.. still think that would have helped the transition immensely, but so far with the staff that is built he isn't just filling positions to fill positions.

If we're comparing DB coaches between Coombs and Tenuta, there is absolutely no comparison. I'd take Tenuta every day of the week.

Plus Coombs has been at OSU since 2012. Literally none of these kids have even been in high school since he was at UC. A senior in high school today was 7 years old the last time Kerry Coombs was at the top of his game coaching high school football. Not saying he isn't a good employee for OSU, but can we quit acting like he is a local legend in Cincinnati that would be the savior for the program?

If you think Urbie A) thinks Coombs is the best DB coach in america and thats why he's on staff then you are off your rocker.. and B) he is on that staff to be a recruiter and hype man.. that is his specialty. No one said he was a savior of a program.. but having a guy who knows this city inside and out would be a huge benefit for CLF.. not like he left UC football to go do accounting in Israel.. he still knows every coach in the city, and if we want to compete at the highest level, he knows the inside of that OSU football office and would be able to speak from experience about the benefits that UC would offer over OSU to a 3/4 or somehow 5* kid who was somehow deciding between the two programs.

A valid argument you could make is, how invested in building CLF up as HC would Coombs be if he felt slighted by being overlooked.. but acting like he wouldn't be a welcome addition is a flat out joke.

I agree Tenuta is better DB coach.. I'd argue there are 30-40 coaches who are better DB coaches in the country.. but he has a place in ANY football office that wants to win in the state of Ohio. If you can't see that then I am sorry, you need to pull your head out.

Oh no I completely understand that argument, but I also think that having a recruiter who can't coach anyone up is not something you can afford to have at a level where most of the kids genuinely need coaching in order to improve. If you can go out and beat people for 5* players that can start on day one, you don't need to be an X's and O's guy, but if you're competing for 3* DBs who have a lot of holes in their game when they come through the door, you best have the ability to build a better player. Never once did I say he wouldn't be welcome, just that I'm much happier having a guy with 35 years of success coaching defenses and DBs in some of the better college programs in America than one whose players quite noticeably did not improve while he was coaching them here.

Kerry Coombs is a good recruiter, but his legend lives with adults who lived inside the 275 loop in the 90's and first half of the 2000's. I played High School ball in Columbus, and never heard his name till I went to UC. Heck I had never heard of Colerain until they won a title in 04, and never thought about them again till this "Coombs" name kept popping up to replace Dantonio.

Its an older generation that keeps the Coombs legend alive inside the 275 belt. He is one of many great recruiters in the country and the guy likes to wear short sleeves... Not too impressed with him outside of that.

We didn't get a single big recruit from Cincy while Coombs was here. Why would that be any different a second time. Fickell's clearly doing just fine making waves with the local coaches.

I'd rather have Ray Combs from Wheel of Fortune than Kerry Coombs from Colerain. The discussion is moot - neither is available.
