You seem to get your panties in a wad every time I write about it. I'm frankly not sure why you feel the need to be Tubby's knight in shining armor.

Bottom line is both Beard and Tubby had about the same number of bodies on their respective rosters when they came to their new schools.

Apparently Tubby knew the players he was left with were very good and there wasn't the need to supplement as fervently as Beard did, and the numbers seem to show that. About 90% of the Tigers minutes and points come from guys that were left by Pastner. Only about 2/3rds at Tech.

I guess we could say Pastner handed over a nice set of keys if the folks earlier in this thread same the same for Beard.

The guy that started the conversation about TT and Beard was Pinhead, the self proclaimed "I know more about basketball than 99% of this board". He without question along with racecar guy, have an agenda. The proof in the pudding is when a poster is constantly negative in regards to Tubby and never has one positive thing to say about Tubby and the team. That being said, I do agree Tubby should of could of and needed to add a couple of more players to the roster. But where the rubber meets the road or the proof in the pudding, is only bringing this issue up along with other selective negative comments and never giving Tubby credit for squat. Tubby is not beyond approach nor is he perfect, but if a poster or a fan wants to be critical when the time is fair and right then their azz needs to give credit when credit is due. If one can't do this, then clearly the person has an agenda.

I don't know if people just see my username and assume I'm the boogeyman, but my post in this thread wasn't an unprovoked "shot" at anyone. It was merely a factual response to the post I cited above.

It is NO different than how I responded when (for years) people talked about how Cal "nuked" the program and how Josh was the the modern day miracle worker for cobbling together wins out of that atrocious roster.

I think Tubby has done fine. I am not pleased that he didn't accomplish more this spring and summer to get a little more help. At this point in the season I thought Memphis would be 12-4 (http://csnbbs.com/thread-800403-post-138...id13843281) and they are, so it isn't like he's blown away expectations.

I like the development of Markel and the staff certainly deserves credit for that. Also, though, I'm sure the necessity of giving the Memphis four boatloads of minutes has helped psychologically as well as developmentally.

He's going to HAVE to snag some of good Memphis kids to keep this program from being a perennial bubble team. IMO.
I don't think you are the boogeyman upon seeing your screen name. Most of the time I read the post prior to looking at the poster. I wasn't taking a shot at you because I quoted you. I simply was addressing two issues with facts. One, the person who started the conversation about TT and Beard. And two, those who only have critical things to say about Tubby who's in his first season, without question have an agenda. I view you as a good/quality poster, personally.

So says the poster who starts virtually every thread with reverent praise of Tubby and a trashing of Pastner (which gets old and runs off good Tiger fans and posters). If you can do a search, you will find I have complimented Tubby numerous times. So try it and don't put out false information.

I, like the other poster in this thread and virtually every media person familiar with our program, question whether Tubby was the right hire due to his age (don't bring up guys who have been with the same program for 20 years; this is a rebuild). We have ALWAYS followed a failed coach with a great hire:

Bartow after Iba
Kirk after Yates
Cal after Price (Jones was interim)

That is why this was such a critical hire. Let's hope the AD got it right because his track record in BB is not very good. The future of our basketball program is at stake.

I knew someone was going to say Tubby could coach two teams at once; one from afar. Which team has more talent?

Your reading comprehension is very poor. I suggest remedial education classes. I would say that 99% of the readers on this site would understand my earlier statement. I guess that puts you in the 1% again.

**Edit**
I feel bad not pointing out your lack of comprehension so I BOLDED the segment of my statement where I said that Tubby left behind the Texas Tech program. I hope that helps for you and any other possible 1 per centers that simply have no clue.

I feel sorry for you if you can't pick up on sarcasm.

Koko wants 450 to come to his rescue. What do you expect when you reply this:

to a good, well thought out post (at least IMO). It was a childish reply from you.

It's a much easier than having to put out the dumpster fire that other coaches leave behind.

Except that Beard brought in three new guys (only had 7 players on the roster when he got there) who made immediate impact as well as two others who are warm bodies to contribute. One of the new guys is TT's second leading scorer. And two transfers for next year, including a 4*.

But yeah, other than that...

Tubby recruited Zach Smith, thier second leading scorer....

Aaron Ross is working his way back into the starting line up from a injury. Anthony Livingston minutes are going to drop.

Doesn't fit the narrative. There's also the fact that we have a recruit hurt and one still not eligible, that would change things. Maybe we shouldn't have taken either one? Possible. But that's a different argument than not doing anything. Got them late? Sure. But that's a 3rd different argument.

So I hear the root of your and Saluki's agenda against Tubby is that you wanted Forbes. Since you brought his name up, gotta ask...Is it true?

It's fine to have wanted someone else. I was pimping Dan Majerle - although there was no one listening. Some point, you gotta let it go though.

Umm the staff recruited the guy with a loooong history of injuries, so caveat emptor.

As for Azab, trying to squeeze in some foreign dude in OCTOBER (who no one else was after) is hard to make a straight faced argument that he was a recruit for this summer.

So, you a Forbes ride-or-die guy?

It's fine if you were. Where the problem comes with Tigers fans, is if you put your love for him above the support of the program.

No, actually my preferences were:

1) Marshall
2) Buzz

Once we got over the disappointment they weren't coming:

3) Andy Kennedy

Then to up and comers:

4) Will Wade
5) Forbes
6) Beard

Probably a couple others out there, too.

Unlike you folks, who live in the life of "In (insert coach's name) We Trust" I don't live FOR the coach. They all screw up. I was one of the first to vocalize my concern with Pastner (BUT I was fine with his hiring after all was said and done).

I'm am just sorely disappointed in the lack of efforts put forth by the staff this summer. And, honestly, that Esposito guy is a big goof and I don't have confidence that he (as lead recruiter) can get the level of quality that 99% of any warm bodies could get at Memphis. Just go to his twitter feed, He's essentially Pastner 2.0 with all his corny stuff.

Since it's pretty obvious as well that Azab won't get cleared to play this year, does he even count anymore?

Kind of like if a tree falls in the forest deal...

Seems like the true 5 months of recruiting netted Rykhoek, Kessee and Clergeot, and he barely plays 2 of the 3.

As for Azab, trying to squeeze in some foreign dude in OCTOBER (who no one else was after) is hard to make a straight faced argument that he was a recruit for this summer.

Since it's pretty obvious as well that Azab won't get cleared to play this year, does he even count anymore?

The idea that anyone is pointing to Azab as "recruiting work" is a joke. Dude is a total flyer of a pick. He's 7 feet tall and averaged 8 ppg in high school. For comparison, Jake McDowell averaged 11 ppg. Chad averaged 24 ppg as a senior.

Well, it's playing the semantics game.

Folks saying he did nothing but golf and other folks coming back saying "sure, he did something...see these guys."

It's picking nits, which whatever.

No one is that dumb.

Main point is they didn't do hardly enough and it's evident.

But it is what it is at this point.

Umm the staff recruited the guy with a loooong history of injuries, so caveat emptor.

So Forbes was, in reality, your 3rd choice. I mean, we all wanted Marshall, Buzz and Archie - but they weren't coming. I was one of the few around here that admitted I'd be fine with Andy. He wasn't my top choice. But I could support him and the decision.

I was not pushing Tubby for the job. He wasn't even on my radar. But once I heard it may happen, I saw I could get on board with it. Experienced, stable, winner. Knows what he's doing and well respected. And the only coach we've ever hired in any sport who has actually won a NC. So, yeah, I got on board.

There's a difference in getting on board and "In _____ we trust". You guys like to make out that it's that simple. It's just not. I was very vocal that if we went after Pearl, I was out. There are others as well.

But fans can see the strengths in a legit coach, and support him. Over-simplify and keep with your bitter agenda since your guy didn't get hired if that's what makes you feel like a big boy. Not healthy, but whatever.

As for Esposito. I was on record as having concerns about Tubby's staff. I want to see more local recruiting next year. At the same time, there's something to be said for an experienced coach bringing his trusted staff with him and the stability that gives. So, again, I'm on board. But I'm watching as well. His twitter stuff compares to Pastner? Well most have recognized that Pastner was best as an assistant/recruiter. So maybe it will reap rewards.

RE: Oklahoma VS Kansas.....interesting
I know folks differ on this stuff, but I like the potential of the core in a few years.

Enoh
KJ
Nickelberry
Johnson
Clergeot

But I also don't want to miss out on kids and really don't ever want to have a short-handed team again, especially when it's a problem that's certainly avoidable...in this day and age with the glut of transfer, regular and grad, and with JCs coming back strong after prep schools took a hit, and with the amount of solid players in the mid-south area, we should always be at 12 or 13 schollies with a couple of decent walk-ons.

I mean, that's pretty basic stuff.
