Completely agree - IF basketball is the only goal.
Add these schools, football 2 divisions:
West: Iowa St, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas A&M, Arkansas, LSU, Kentucky
East: Mississippi, Mississippi St, Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida
3 divisions:
West: Iowa St, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, Oklahoma St, Texas A&M
Central: Arkansas, LSU, Mississippi, Mississippi St, Alabama, Auburn
East: Kentucky, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida
Wow, A little mini version of the Big XII for Mizzou. lol
Lol I see it as more of a Big 8 reunion! Feel free to switch Arkansas and Texas A&M!

The beauty of Kansas would be the football would have a high ceiling considering they would have the SEC backing them. They would, in my mind, immediately become the football school in Kansas.

Wow, being known as the football school in Kansas would rank right up there with being known as the best downhill skiing destination in Florida.

IIRC the tallest spot in the entire state of Florida is 87 feet above sea level.

But Cincinnati wouldn't beat K-State

In football? I think that's about to change, now that we've rid ourselves of a coach who's been drawing a $2.2 million pension the last four years. Things are definitely looking up in Cincy.

Replace "Kansas" with "Rutgers" and "SEC" with "B1G" and reread that post.

I don't know much about the area, but I'd venture a guess that Rutgers is the football school in New Jersey. That doesn't really mean much though.
Going back to the state of Kansas - if Wichita State does start football, I wouldn't be surprised if they became "the football" school in Kansas. Who knows what will happen once Bill Snyder retires (again) at K-State, and we haven't seen KU have with a pulse in football in a while. Say Wichita State goes the Liberty route and plays as an independent, if they can get a couple of 8-4 type seasons in a row, I could see them becoming a full AAC member within about 10 years of starting football. It's not that much of a stretch to think they could become a 8-4 to occasional 10-2 type team competing in the AAC (or a comparable type of conference depending on what happens in future realignment). It might not be likely that they become the football school in Kansas, but the bar is fairly low, and it wouldn't really surprise me if they did.

I think you are correct.
Charlotte didn't have a football team 10 years ago and now they are already a member of Conference USA and trending up like a rocket.
Wichita State could do it with the right backing ($$$$).
