CUSA has several of the longest tenured ADs. Justified?
This was brought up on the ninernation.net:

Quote:Utah, Charlotte, Wake, Creighton, Davidson, Louisville, Western Michigan, Oklahoma, UTEP, UTSA, Navy, Providence, Virginia, DePaul, Kentucky, Toledo and UCLA all have AD tenures >= 15 years in that order.

The average AD tenure is about 4-6 years. Median was reported at 5 years and mean at 6.4 years.

Judy Rose (Charlotte) is the second longest tenured AD in the country (at any level) at 27 years and counting. 27. Vs 5 yr average. She has stated she has no plans on retiring because she still has "things to accomplish". I'd interpret that as she hasn't completely demolished the 49ers revenue sports - I mean, they're strapped on a table in the ER with a faint pulse instead of on a slab @ the morgue, but just barely. Her insistence that women's sports get equal billing, marketing and funding to revenue sports (not men's sports, just revenue sports), means that the ADs office spends more time marketing WBB than they do Football.

Really tired of this woman's attitudes. Her inability to see the difference between revenue sports and non-revenue sports (eg men's soccer, which Charlotte is really good at) because she chooses to see everything as a Title IX battle has killed all momentum the 49ers athletics programs ever had. Charlotte has a $5Million+ tennis center but cant afford to expand its football facilities. SEC AD reps touring campus saw the tennis center and remarked ("there's no way we could get this built at our schools" - to which she probably fist pumped)

I'm curious if the other fanbases on this list with oddly long tenured ADs are happy with theirs, and if not what their complaints are? Also, I'd welcome outsiders opinions on these ADs. Sympathy for afflicted fanbases is welcomed as well.

I think ad's are just like coaches. If no one wants them, you shouldn't either.

She's worked for the university for over 30. She was the women's basketball coach before.

Our men's coach was also the AD, but state law (or maybe it was NCAA rules) changed stating that coaches couldn't also be AD. When our coach was offered the choice to be coach or AD, he chose coach, so the AD position was offered to her. She took it and hasn't stopped curb stomping our revenue sports ever since.

For years, we succeeded despite her.

They've probably tried to get her to move on only to be threatened with a Title IX lawsuit.

Gah! We heard that same line from our old AD so many times.

So much has changed in the last five years much less the last 27 years.

Hate that for you all Charlotte. Growing up in the late 90's-early 00's I always remember seeing Charlotte when filling out my NCAA bracket. Hope you all get back to that for the good of the league.

We sort of put bball on the back burner for the benefit of starting football by moving back to CUSA and leaving the A10. That isn't the only reason we suck as our our AD's coaching hires/extensions, etc haven't helped. For some reason she thinks all sports should be equal when anyone with a brain knows that football and bball are the money makers, etc.

Bob Stull has been our AD for 19 years now. Under his watch football has 1 conference title, five bowl appearances, four winning seasons and zero bowl wins. Our basketball team has three NCAA tournament appearances, two regular season conference titles, one conference tournament title and zero NCAA tournament victories. We desperately need a new AD and some accountability.

I agree with this. Long tenured coaches and ADs in this conference most likely means you are having below average (not terrible) to slightly above average success. At some point, it is time to make changes, whether that be for better or worse. At least try.

A similar point was made on Ninernation.net. If Judy Rose was that great don't you think she would have gotten a call up to the P5 in 27 years. It is not like we are known for paying all that well. During her tenure we have moved from CUSA 1.0 to the A-10 (not by choice and we were a terrible fit) to CUSA 3.0 (by choice). I am not going to argue over which conference is better but I will make the point that if she had any influence at all we would have had football in the late 90s and never had to leave CUSA 1.0 to begin with. I appreciate what she had done but it is time for her to retire and for new ideas.

I hate couching it as a title ix issue because it really isn't (only in her head). WBB is a fine sport but it is no different than baseball, softball or soccer - it is not a major revenue sport. Yet she feels, for title ix reasons, that it is important to hold revenue sports back, when, in actuality, their success would help fund ALL programs.

Also, JCMiner, I feel your pain. You see what you have done in spite of piss poor leadership and cannot help imagining what could have been or could be with stronger leadership.

WKU's AD is horrible. I'd recommend all other schools avoid trying to steal him from us. 02-13-banana02-13-banana02-13-banana

AD Chris Massaro has been at MT almost 12 years

Our president has been at MT almost 16 years

Our head track coach has been at that position here at MT since 1965

If your school president is complacent about sports success then it is up to the boosters to put on pressure for a new AD.Obviously the bigger donors will have more influence.A grass roots campaign can also work.Check with some NORTH TEXAS folks for suggestions. They recently(finally) changed AD's.
CHARLOTTE and UTEP are two schools who need a change---NOW!!!01-lauramac2

27 years in the same AD job is just absurd.

A better question is, when is CUSA going to man-up and fire Commissioner Judy MacLeod? She's a very poor leader and a terrible communicator. And I suspect she's a poor negotiator. What is CUSA's long term strategy anyway? Do we even have one?

CUSA could really use a good commissioner.

I think its irrelevant how long she, or anyone else, has been in their position. The only measuring stick should be success.
