Let him retire with his existing paycheck.

Les Miles has won multiple SEC championships... a NATIONAL championship and has huge pull in the coaching circles....

Stop diluting yourselves to think a guy like Les Miles would be a step down...

PJ gives us one MAC championship and all of a sudden we are too good for Les Miles? What the hell has happened here?

My thoughts exactly - like the DC from MSU is suddenly better than Les. Ha.

I'm going to trust KB's (and Dunn's) expertise in finding the right fit for the program, whether it's a big name or little known. Landing a 'sexy' name would be nice, sure, but I won't immediately dismiss a nobody hired out of left field either. Because look what happened the last time we did that.

We aren't the WMU that needed the diamond in the rough anymore... KB needs to make the next big step... we had that guy... got to this point and need a hire who makes the next step...

Agreed - we aren't 4-8.

We're not 'Bama either, I get that, but this is an in demand position - better make the most of it (Les).

RE: Les Miles - Yes
Today ESPN wrote an article on Les Miles: http://www.espn.com/college-football/sto...5-programs

Coach Miles clearly wants to coach again -- and it doesn't sound like he is limiting himself to a P5 conference. Why wouldn't he want a shot at the #1 G5 job in country? It sounds like he is looking for a place to settle down for a while -- possibly to end his coaching career. It seems to me the fire is still burning there -- a strong will to win championships. Two years ago we would have been laughed at for even mentioning Les Miles as a coaching candidate.

Plain and simple, defense wins championships. Jim Harbouth knows this. Mark Dantonio knows this. Frank Solich (who almost beat us in the MACC game) knows this. AND SO DOES LES MILES -- LSU was ranked #10 in the country in team defense this year. So you can to talk about "dinosaur offense" all you want. PJ's offense this year was all about ball control and limiting turnovers. It wasn't about trying to score as many points as you can within time allotted.

Now, having said all this do I think Les Miles is the absolute answer to our decision for a new head coach? No -- but we could certainly do a lot worse. I really like the idea of taking hard look at the up and coming FCS coaches. However, there is a huge risk in going this route -- and we just experienced it. Plus, we were very fortunate in the fact that PJ had a lot of recruiting ties to the midwest -- other FCS coaches may not have have the same high school ties to land the big recruits in the area.

Anyhow, that's my two cents.

Remember when Kelly left CMU and they thought they were going to get Gruden? Let's not be like that.

Fun thing is... we don't need Miles but it's fun to speculate...

We aren't CMU, fan, and Gruden and Miles aren't even remotely comparable. Les stated rather conveniently that he is open to a G5 program if it provided him the opportunity to help build a program and win championships. Check and check. And he says he has learned things by studying WMU's offense specifically, among others. If the deep pockets feel it's the right move, as well as Dr. Dunn and Kathy, to keep this momentum going, don't be surprised if it happens.

I will be pleasantly surprised. 04-cheers

RE: Les Miles - Yes
A few thoughts on the Les Miles idea ... (

1. Miles would likely elevate our recruiting going forward - something we will desperately need after this 2017 class is decimated by PJ leaving for Minn...

2. Les likely has already put together a list of coordinators and staff that he would immediately bring along... likely upgrading our staff immensely while hopefully holding onto a few PJ pieces to keep some continuity... (i.e. Wenger or Simon)...

3. Miles would bring a new "Brand" to WMU that would off-set the de-branding of Row The Boat... possibly one that would be less obtuse and might stick around easily when he would eventually move on... Maybe something more BRONCO related....

4. Miles would put the defense back on top... and hopefully lean on a spread type offense...

5. Les Miles would WIN at WMU...

Could we afford the staff he would bring?

I agree on the other points.

Gruden's name was coming out of left field. Les Miles clearly stated he was open to a Group of 5 school. Our administration/alumni were willing to open their pocket books for PJ. I see no reason they would not be willing to do the same for Les Miles. Miles isn't looking for a stepping stone at this point in his career.

I watch Garrett Soldano's video -- he is right on. I think Miles would bring stability to our program for years to come.

Go big or go home.

Provided he's the right fit culturally (as KB said in the presser - someone who is dedicated to the student athletes first, places the proper importance on academics, service, character, etc.) for our beloved institution and, of course, wants the job... seems like a no brainer to me.

RE: Les Miles - Yes
WMU wish to stay on the mountain or return to the pasture. WMU is a Cotton Bowl team, has the best MAC facilities, the best community support and two very very wealthy donors ranking among Houston, Tulsa, Memphis, Boise St G5 money. You can't go back now Bronco fans. Bringing in old Bronco blood for HC isn't going to cut it. No offense to Tim Lester but he's been fired at two lower pack P5 programs. WMU HC will make over $1.5M next season with 5 year min contract. He will have P5 experience and success. This late in the game only one choice exists to put WMU back in the ESPN headlines that just went to Minnesota. Expect the unexpected, Kathy B is under pressure by those donors to keep the wine list appealing. She is going to do it.

I mentioned it in another post but if Miles came in we'd likely have a coach in waiting/training for when he eventually retires. At first I was totally against it but the more I think about it the more I like it. Choices abound but you can be sure Fleck is throwing all the oarsman he can into his boat out of town. However comes in needs a ready built staff.

The mere fact that we outnumbered the Wisconsin fans at the Cotton Bowl is huge. I think the Cotton Bowl committee was blown away by the number of fans that traveled.

Been watching Bronco football since 1971. I told Coach Jack Harbaugh in 1983 that Western was 'a sleeping giant' and was waiting for that winner to come along to get us engaged. You saw it at the Cotton Bowl and hopefully more so from here on.
