Very telling IMO. Such a huge upgrade already from a recruiting standpoint.

I feel like I am walking out of the desert after 4 years of whatever the hell that utter lack of focus was.

I saw this posted in the recruitment thread:

" White said the old staff offered him but he never heard from them. Has been speaking to Coach Marcus Freeman for over a year. Will likely play Nickel and Special Teams."

CLF deserves a lot of credit as he probably had his hand in this as well, but it sounds like this was one of Marcus Freeman's guys. Sounds like White would have been a Boilermaker had Freeman not had a relationship with him for so long. As soon as CLF was hired there was an immediate buzz, and I would bet he hit the ground running with a list of guys he really liked that there was no room for at OSU.

That said "flipping" a local recruit from a P5 conference bottom dweller is the first step to getting back to where UC deserves to be in terms of talent.

To do it on such short notice in a dead period speaks to the credibility of this staff. I see many more good things to come on the recruiting trail.

I believe based on my quick research, Luke Fickel's first recruit is either higher or tied for the highest ranking of any player Tubberville ever signed. Not counting transfers.

Just curious, is that including Kevin Mouhon? I thought he was the highest rated recruit of the Tuberville era who is currently on the roster.

Not sure about their composite ratings but in Tubs' first class he came out 'hot' (or so we thought) with Mike Tyson, Jerrell Jordan, Terrell Hartsfield and Rod Moore. All of those guys were 4 stars on at least one site. Now, they were all JUCO or Prep School guys and not HS guys. But we were all pretty giddy with the immediate impact Tubs and Co. (mostly Prunty) pulled in that first class.

I hope Jarell White ends up being the attitude on the team like Leviticus Payne was. Loved that guy's intensity.

Rivals 4* local. Impressive.

Mouhon's stock plummetted after his senior season's film came out. Tennessee made no effort to keep him and I know he dropped to a 3 star on 247. I think he remained a 4 star on Rivals but had dropped out of their top 250. Plus having his brother on the team made it easy for the staff. This is a much bigger get on so many levels IMO.

JW, my new favorite player! Every program has had a recruit who turned the tide, he may be ours. Either way, he showed stones and invested in building something.

I mentioned this in the Recruiting thread, but Tubbs scored 2 recruits more highly rated than Mr. White. His top 2 recruits were both ESPN 300 kids. Mr. Johnson, TE (he transferred out after one season), and Mr. Mouhoun.

In no way is this to say who's better, b/c quite frankly....that's not possible at this time. Nevertheless, to be fair....Johnson was in that 1st Tubberville class and was more highly acclaimed (again, fwiw) than Mr. White.

None of this is to take away from our haul today b/c in plenty of ways this is even more of a big deal due to the kid being local. I'm all for it, and look forward to more Ohio kids signing up.

Coming in short notice and producing anything positive on the recruiting end after Tuberville and co. took us so far down, especially considering our conference situation, is nothing short of impressive. I'm being patient still though.

Great to read this. Seems when we do well locally it is often west siders, Elder, LaSalle, Colerain.
