Here's what I don't get about that the idea that the playoff has relegated everything else as meaningless:

This game wouldn't have been for a national championship during the BCS era or prior to that. Alabama and either Clemson or Ohio State would have played for the title regardless of what year it was.

This game featured two hot teams with entertaining offenses and it made for a great game in a historic setting.

The thing I found weird is you had the semis on NYE and then 2 days later had 4 more bowl games.

despite the game, it was the second lowest rated Rose Bowl in history, same with the Sugar.

They really need to move those semi's off of NYE. Preferrably, right after Christmas. Then have the NCG on the Monday after NY's.

Possible. But that's a broad definition, if so.

I would say there's hardly ever any doubt in motivation, preparation, effort and desire to win a NY 6 bowl. Whereas other bowls - not so sure.

Exhibition? Ok. Results that can be interpreted to mean something? Much more likely.
