Chuck Staben -- Still a Dickhead
http://www.idahostatesman.com/sports/col...45018.html

So much BS and so many outright lies here. Some of my favorites:

We’re not moving down, we’re moving forward to the Big Sky. There’s a big difference.

Argh.

And most of the boosters that we hear from, in a variety of ways, actually favor the Big Sky.

There is no measure by which boosters favor the Big Sky. donations and season ticket sales are down, every forum, news story and Facebook post everywhere is full of angry Vandals, and Chuck's own FOIA'ed emails were overwhelmingly opposed to the move. You filthy liar.

There are some donors who have threatened to, and some I am sure who have decided to, not contribute. But at the same time, we’re actually doing extremely well on overall contributions with the university. And so, in general, this has not been a financial (issue). It was not a primarily financially motivated move, and it has not been a financial issue.

When he announced the drop, it was all about finances. His own AD undercut him on that point when he was forced to state actual numbers, so now of course this has nothing to do with money.

Someone on the Vandal Board posted "Chuck Staben's biggest accomplishment -- turning some of the University's biggest supporters into it's most ardent detractors." That's going to be this guy's legacy.

You just wait. The minute Idaho has any success at the FCS level, he'll use it as justification for why the move was worth it.

I hate it for Idaho. I can't imagine the feeling of dealing with a move down (and that's exactly what it is, regardless of how that guy spins it). I wish you guys the best of luck in FCS, but I don't know if any amount of success will be worth it.

Some day in the distant future, when he's off ruining another school and we're playing Western Illinois in front of 3,500 people in a first-round FCS playoff game, Chuck Staben will say "I told you so."

Short of a NDSU type run it won't be. It's a lose lose really.

We drop down and suck and it's "LOL at Idaho you dropped down and still sucked".

We drop down and win and it's "LOL at Idaho they couldn't win without dropping down".

Chuck Staben has ensured that all Idaho will ever be known for is the team that gave up and dropped down. Sorry, gave up and "moved forward".

During App State's tenure in the league, Ark. State is even Steven with App. Both 20-4 vs. the Sun Belt, 1-1 against each other. Yes, I know stAte's domination extends back further.

Congrats to Idaho on the great season. Sorry your President is such a liar and ruining Idaho athletics.

We like to occasionally gig Idaho because Petrino famously claimed before the 2014 season started that Idaho was going to be the "bullies of the Sun Belt"

It would been really humorous had Staben not taken the program and jumped off a cliff this summer.

Even Steven?

stAte has 2 Sun Belt titles during that time.

How many does App have?

When/if Idaho finally moves to FCS, I hope they dominate and win national titles.

Here's a story on one of those alienated Vandal families. Vandals through and through, pulling an annual $100K donation. All part of that "minimal" financial impact Staben talks about.

Exactly. And even if we do well, we get no credit because we're the school that couldn't hack it and had to move down to win. It's lose-lose.

NMSU doesn't even have an Indy schedule for 2018. Idaho will have a harder time. Everybody is pretty much booked up.
Just because UI and NMSU happen to put a schedule 5 years ago, there have been a lot of changes now and make a Indy schedule harder to put together.
Staben is doing a smart move for Idaho. NMSU may not be able to get a schedule out and they big issue for them is they don't have a FCS conference that would like them if they can't get a FBS schedule....they may drop football and just focus on basketball in the WAC.

I don't believe you about independent scheduling, but either way I'd much rather go the NMSU route than the way we're going. What changes between 2013 and now make indy scheduling harder? I see more FBS teams and more teams that aren't allowed to play FCS schools, which should make it easier now than it was then.
