RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
After believing their season, and for the seniors, their careers was over I wonder how many of them could even pass a drug test right now.

If I was betting I'd put my money there.
If offered, we politely decline due to our guys are off campus already and have plans already to be with their families.
Holiday Bowl gladly extends invite to better teams in talent and geography.
...and they slip us 250k to decline, everyone's happy.

I was thinking the same thing. I'm sure we can come with with maybe even a half million reasons to say we're not ready to play!

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
Last tweet I saw said Minnesota team was meeting with Board of Regents today between 3-4. Given that I would think we would know our status tonight.

I think with all the players assessing things -- and if the Board at least throws them a bone and expresses cooperation -- they players will lift their boycott.
But it'd be nice to see NIU go. And an NIU fan in the stands with a sign that says "Huskies Don't Believe in Gangbangs" would be a nice touch, too.

Can you imagine the player being number 9 or 10? What a mess. Gross. And nobody thought that this may be wrong.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
NBC Sports reporting that it would be difficult for NIU to fill the spot on such short notice and that ASU and whatever the other team was both already played Wash St. This is really interesting.

Great, so then we would get to hear more excuses about why we lose games. Its injuries, its playing 6,000 ft above sea level, we only got 5 practices but the opposing team got their full bowl practices, we've never played well in San Diego, etc.
We will get destroyed in yet another bowl game. Hopefully we pass and let some other 5-7 team go.

I could care less about Washington State getting to play a game or not. It would be a slap in the face of whatever team fills in to be the whipping post with only 5 bowl practices and little time to review game tape, make the long trip, and figure out all the logistics on short notice. Washington State would hold a huge advantage over any opponent.

I don't care if we get killed.
You take the $2.8 million and once in a lifetime Holiday Bowl for a MAC team.

The game is 11 days from now. You'd have a full week of usual game prep. Washington State would have an equal amount of time to film study

Wazzu only needs about 30 minutes to prep for our offense.

So we find out tomorrow, at the earliest. Its then 10 days. You have to recall players who graduated or are on winter break and left campus. You get them all back by Sunday, if lucky, you now have 9 days. The team will fly out to San Diego at least 3-4 days before the game. So we have 5-6 of prep in DeKalb.
Film study not just your opponent but players studying themselves to get better. Their team has likely been doing that this whole time.

Oddly, it might be to the advantage of NIU if they have as little time as possible to prepare.
It's like a movie script for a sports film - the underdog team that has every reason to fold bands together and plays the game of their collective life.
Plus, the less time they have to prepare diminishes the stink that Coach Carey infuses into the program. If you take him out of the equation, we might actually see our Huskies play much better.

RE: NIU to the Holiday Bowl?
The great thing about this potential game is that Wazzu actually would have a chance at beating a team named the Huskies.
Also, WSU fans are happy to be playing in the Holiday Bowl. The general feeling is indifference towards Minnesota. I doubt many will be upset if NIU is the replacement team. It's not like last time the Cougars played in the Holiday Bowl (2003 when they beat Texas).
If this happens I implore you to start watching Mike Leach press conferences.
This game would be great for NIU exposure. Play it if they are offered. Declining it shows that NIU doesn't care much about their program (my opinion). This is a once in a lifetime chance.
