Agreed. It's ambiguous at best. In the transcript of her speech, "unacceptable" appears only once, and in reference to stereotyping rather than actual hate crimes being committed.

We need to build the plans around actual human behavior, not make an unrealistic plan (Yay! Prosecute hate crimes!) and then throw up our hands in exasperation when (Wait! How do you define hate crimes?) totally predictably, it fails.

The problem with hate crimes is MOSTLY that it requires an opinion about someone's motivation. That flies in the face of our justice system where 'beyond a reasonable doubt' is the burden for crimes. Even if someone called someone a racial epithet while they were stabbing them, it is NOT beyond a reasonable doubt that they weren't stabbing them for a reason OTHER than the fact that they were 'a different race'.

The OTHER problem is that it puts one murder 'above' another in its penalty... and thus its relative value to society. I think it at least arguable that killing someone because they are a leader for social justice and equality is a greater crime against society than randomly killing someone because of their race or religion or sexual orientation. The former is not by definition a hate crime while the latter is.

I have studied Islam extensively and I have come to a grave conclusion. It is a dangerous religion.

Didn't we have a thread or a post of links showing the violence of Islam if they reached a certain threshold of population in a country?
