I guess they think those jobs are head and shoulders above UC since they get the privilege of being OSU, Michigan, and Wisconsin's punching bags in the Big Ten. I give Fickell a lot more credit than that. I think he wants stability and is smart enough not to jump to a death sentence job at a Big Ten bottom dweller.
Meanwhile, we have two guys who left Purdue and Notre Dame for the same position here...
To be fair, I think they were both on the hot seat.
I don't see Fickell leaving for Maryland. He's spent his whole life in Ohio, despite obvious opportunities to leave. I don't think he goes to any job that's not in a bordering state (and even then he'd only got to a job that doesn't start with "M").
Agree. He has like 6 kids that are school aged and has stated he doesn't want to uproot them again. Honestly I think he would leave for OSU but maybe not any other school, at least for quite a few years.

Fickell won't go to Michigan, but I could see Michigan State as a possibility after Dantonio hangs up the whistle in a few years. Fickell and Dantonio are very close-- if you recall the first person he talked to when UC reached out to him was MD. Other possibilities I see him taking are Notre Dame (he and his wife are devoutly Catholic) or Penn State. All this being said, I am just going to enjoy the now and not worry about all this. Fickell has been a huge shot in the arm for the program and exactly what we needed.
P.S. This week I have been in the Youngstown area working. I was wearing a UC t-shirt at the gym one morning and a guy walked up to me and said "Luke Fickell is the man!". After engaging in discussion with him I learned he knew nothing else about the football program, but said he will be watching now that Fickell is at the helm. I have a feeling there are quite a few people like him in this state.

CLF seems to get a ton of respect nationally. If things go well I don't think UC will have any trouble getting votes in polls or getting respect from bowl committees.

Fickell is beloved here in Columbus. A lot of Buckeye fans are pulling for him to do well. We will see what happens if we start winning some recruiting battles though.

When I had a game watch here in Toledo for the Houston football game, the Buckeye fans were pulling for Houston because of Herman. One of the Buckeyes said no problem with Cincinnati, just rooting for Herman because he was one of us. I believe Fickell will have a similar effect of bringing more attention to the Bearcats.

Does anyone have any idea if the budget for football has been significantly increased this year?

I hope he is recovered from his 2 "stents". Heart trouble at a young age is bad.
