Good luck convincing an SBC team to do a 2 for 1 unless they are a ULM or Texas State who desperately needs the home game for attendance purposes.

Especially with almost every other SBC school already signed to a future home and home with an AAC squad.

GSU was literally an FCS team a couple years ago. Please stop acting like AAC and Fun Belt teams are equal. Jesus.

Tulane, Tulsa, SMU, Memphis, and Houston now all have home and homes scheduled in the near future with SBC teams. Just because App bowed down to your wishes and gave you a virtual 2 for 1 doesn't mean the rest of the conference is going to be able to get SBC teams to agree.

You guys are the Top G5 league, but that doesn't mean much in the long run.

I respect our home and home with Arkansas state as you actually bring quite a few fans to Dallas but I have no idea why we did that with Texas state as that is a worthless game to us

MEMPHIS has a H&H with Georgia State set for next season and 2018.

2017 is at Atlanta (new domed stadium) on Nov 18; the TIGERS damn sure are not going to Statesboro, GA.
2018 is Sept 15 in MEMPHIS

Most of these G5 schools are demanding $1mm+ for a buy game, so unless you are a P5 with ample resources, you have to schedule H&H. The game next year at Atlanta is in a recruiting area for MEMPHIS.

I bet UH also is playing the "road" game at Atlanta.

Not sure why we scheduled this one. Yes, Georgia Southern typically has a good team---but as a new FBS school located 1000 miles away---they aren't going to sell tickets in Houston. They aren't located in an area we regularly recruit. All this game will do is run up our travel expenses and provide another roadie that's difficult and expensive to travel to.

No offense to Georgia Southern, but I think it would make more sense for us to schedule someone like LaTech. They field a team that's just as good (or better) and would likely generate more interest locally. Plus, we recruit kids in Louisiana--so it might help there. I just think that when you're scheduling OOC G5 games, regional schools makes more sense.

To the contrary, it may be a better idea to schedule them with schools far away. You could lose clout and credibility in your state or region by losing to a UTSA or Texas State. Get a service academy or regional FCS layup for attendance purposes and a relatively easy game (yes, Houston, lost to Navy, I know).

Too late. We've already lost to UTSA and Texas St---yet they are both on the schedule. Either one makes more sense than traveling cross county to play another newbie FBS school. We should be playing Rice and one other regional G5 each year along with a pair of P5's. Makes sense for recruiting and is the best way to sell a few extra tickets. We have plenty of 1000 mile away games just playing our conference schedule.

I'm shocked everyone in the world doesn't want to sign up to play us in OOC play since our idiot coach seems to think that OOC play is basically the same thing as the NFL Preseason.

We should travel well to Dallas next year regardless though. I'm actually thinking about going to that one. Nearby OOC games against teams not named Memphis are a rarity for us.

Road game is in Statesboro per the contract. Houston doesn't travel well enough, nor carry a big enough name to make a dent in the Atlanta market. That sports market is hard enough on the Hawks and Falcons.

Also, you might want to check on the location of your game with Georgia State next season. Panthers are going to try and play next season at Turner Field. Rent for Falcons new stadium was too much.

Yeah that's the plan, as I understand it from reading the AJC (Atlanta paper). But the delay in funding the Turner Field purchase & conversion may require a change. GSU (GA St U.) playing in the Dome has always been a joke, the high school kick-off games draw bigger crowds. Even in Atlanta, I have questioned the wisdom of Memphis playing GSU H&H, UH playing GS in Statesboro against a much better team is a real head scratcher. But GS does have fans who will attend. UH will probably face a full house at Statesboro but a full house is 18K. GSU will probably draw 8-10K for Memphis & half of those will be Memphis fans.
