Funny how that number had changed, I recall it being around 10,500 when they issued the first press release.

I think 12,000 is a solid number, to be honest. The amount of games that we end up over that number is pretty minute and maybe the better arena gets us closer to that number over the season

I anticipate BearcatUC to question the seating numbers in 3...2...1

No, he only counts the 40000 football dots. People in Houston do not watch basketball according to their fans.03-yes

Anyone have any idea what they'll be doing with the 1,400 seats they'll be getting rid of? I'd like to get my hands on some seat backs.

Already talked to the powers-that-be about it and they are planning to save some seats for those who would like to purchase them.

How do I get on that list?

Should be enough to go around as every seatback in the building will be replaced.

There are actually a few scattered black seats already in place. I saw a pair in sec. 103 saturday. Not sure if they are tests, or they just had to replace some of the old red guys. They're getting pretty rickety in some areas.

RE: Our House 2018
Interesting update on the capacity - I like 12,000, especially given the much-improved site lines. I haven't seen this commented on, but I like the fact that we're doing the new arena within the confines of the current building. The trend in new arenas - especially in the NBA - has been to make them more cavernous. I remember reading an article when Denver built the Pepsi Center and tore down McNichols. Capacity expanded by about 3,000, but the square footage nearly doubled. When that place isn't close to sold out, it's tough to generate energy. Similarly, when Ohio State has crowds of 11,000 or 12,000 in the Schott, that place is a mausoleum. We're going to love our new arena!

That's what I thought. IIRC, every seat will have a chairback.

The problem, as told to me by the athletic department and should be obvious, is that the seats share arms so they will be lucky to salvage half. Still, that should be more than enough for demand.

I also suggested moving the banners to the concourses or rafters and doing a virtual banner video board that would show, for example, the 92 banner and then highlights from that team.
