RE: Joe Dooley and ECU/What happened?/Need for a SE focus
He won't take the job. Sorry BEH, but the AAC knew from the CUSA days what they were getting in ECU basketball. Yes, Lebo needs to be gone, but right now top priority needs to go to righting the ship in football (the real reason ECU got invited to the AAC) and if there's a few extra bucks left, throw into the baseball program. I'm looking forward to a huge year in baseball. Basketball? No one ever expects anything to happen. Wish ECU would start a wrestling program so we could have dual meets with all the ACC schools who have wrestling like UNC, NC St, Duke, Virgina Tech, Pitt, Virginia...
Cheers!

I digressed, I figured you'd throw up images of professional wrestling in response. But back to my point, no I don't think the former coach takes the job. I don't think ECU even cans Lebo due to the contract. But even if both things happened I don't see ECU becoming a basketball force, nor do I see USF and UCF becoming big rivals in basketball.
Cheers!

Meanwhile, ECU and its horrid basketball program help create the intolerable situation where the AAC gets only two bids to this year's NCAA tournament. Beating the Pi-rats provides nothing close to an RPI ratings boost, and in a potential freak once-per-decade loss it becomes a irrecoverable black mark against a team's tournament worthiness. Perhaps ECU could go back to CUSA and maybe your basketball program could "advance" to the top 2/3rds or 3/4ers of that sorry conference.

Basketball threads are fun like that.
You get to see how much has changed after an offseason.
In ECU's case, not much. lol
How many seasons has Lebo had to right the ship now?
There's always next year...

RE: Joe Dooley and ECU/What happened?/Need for a SE focus
I liked Joe Dooley as ECU's coach and am sorry he left.
I also liked Bill Herrion. Herrion took a bunch of chances on some players that didn't work out (academics). It hurt ECU really bad.
We need to remember that Terry Holland worked hard on ECU's basketball program. He had to start over twice (changing coaches and revoking (?) scholarships for players). Lebo was a new beginning to build the correct way. Of course, Holland was forced out and did not get to help Lebo. Home scheduling is challenging at ECU. Keeping players from transferring is a challenge. I am not convinced our current AD has the skill to support basketball properly.

If Lebo leaves for a bigger job this season, ECU should strongly consider hiring former UNC-Charlotte coach Bobby Lutz. He'd be a great replacement if, God forbid, Lebo were to leave Greenville.

The ACC has two Florida schools. You don't see UNC, Duke, and NC State fans yapping about the Noles and the Canes. The first arrangement (fb only) would have been perfect for you ECU fans that want close road games. Why didn't you join the Colonial and stay true to the original agreement? It would have been the best of all possible worlds for a fan base that doesnt seem to care.
ECU needs to man up... because USF IS (they fired a ****** coach who kept beating ECUs ****** coach... Btw, Antigua was hired after ECU joined the AAC). UCF fired a better coach than Lebo, and made a good hire in Johnny Dawkins.
They're committed to making this conference the best possible home for basketball, realizing their RPIs affect everyone else's RPIs.
The bottom line is that its an embarrassment ECU keeps giving Lebo more seasons. No other program in America give Votes of Confidence to coaches that regularly finish at the bottom of the conference and lose to the absolute worst teams.
Lebo is unemployable as a D1 basketball coach everywhere except ECU. Lol. That's a dubious distinction for you Pirate fans.

You are probably the sorriest loser on the internet. We are all sports and will be until the conference dissolves. Even if we hired a golden retriever to be coach that wouldn't change. Go figure out a more productive use of your time and energy than telling message board schlubs to 'man up' over a situation they have no control over.

Give me a break man. Was Holland going to give the same help to Lebo that he gave to Ricky Stokes? Oh wait....
As much as Holland did, he also was responsible for the worst basketball coach in ECU history, and that is saying a lot. Lebo has gotten everything he has asked for at ECU besides maybe a completely renovated Minges. Lebo stated lack of pract. facility and a low recruiting budget was holding him back. He got the pract gym, got an increase in the recruiting budget, has a private jet at his disposal for recruiting. The last few years he has some of the best freshman guards in the conference but somehow continues to regress. Says he needs a big man, get's his big man who is a great defender and one of, if not the best shot blocker in the AAC. Still regresses.
Lebo was a decent low/mid major coach at one time. He was fair in CUSA but it is clear he is way past his capabilities as a high major coach in the AAC. Just as he was in a basically identical situation at Auburn. I don't like Compher, but please don't use Holland not being AD as the reason Lebo is failing. Compher has actually done more for ECU basketball is 2-3 years than Holland did in 9 years.

You pretend like you're giving some super insightful lecture when there are very few people disagreeing with you. We know we're bad, we know it's embarrassing, but there's nothing we as fans can do about it.
