OT: Nevada Gov signs bill for $1.9 Billion Stadium for Raiders and UNLV
This was one of the final stumbling blocks that the Raiders, Vegas and the State had to do prior to the NFL Owners voting on this matter come Jan.

Here's a video and renderings of what this stadium would look like. (Obviously a retractable dome, and even retractable side partitions too)

How far will it be from UNLV's campus?

As of now, this is a much better deal vs what the folks of Tampa had to deal with in regards to a GENERAL Sales Tax increase (meant locals paid a majority of the cost) for Raymond James Stadium to be built.

On paper, it seems to be a wise investment for the State/City...as here is the finance breakdown for stadium costs: (i.e. no general city or state funds will be used)

1) Tourist Tax: Increase in hotel tourist tax to raise $750 Million

2) The family of Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman and CEO Sheldon Adelson would contribute $650 million

3) Raiders could kick in $500 Million

Also included in this bill was a new 'extra' hotel tax that will help pay for a $1.4 Billion Upgrade to the humongous Las Vegas Convention Center.

Stadium and Convention project are expected to increase hotel nights in city by 1.8 Million per year and bring an ANNUAL extra economic impact of $1.5 Billion.

Primary spot will be much closer to their campus and obvious the strip. Right now UNLV (and that bowl game) takes place at a stadium approx 8 miles from campus and almost 10 miles from the strip in the middle of the desert.

The new stadium (especially in a 35,000 - 40,000 seat configuration), plus the new cooler location should give UNLV a big jolt to help with their football recruiting. (Heck, might even help with their overvall student recruitment...as that city/strip went from zero professional sports teams to maybe 2...as those 2 new facilities, including the new NHL Arena, should bring in even more top notch entertainment, sporting events, concerts, etc...

So if I'm a Las Vegas resident, I can go on Saturday to watch Wyoming or San Jose State play UNLV for $28 or watch the Rams vs. the Raiders for $58. Hmmm, UNLV better sell lots of Coca Cola's.

There has also been rumblings that UNLV hockey may join Arizona State in the desert hockey movement and move up to varsity hockey and use that new arena as well.

So let me get this straight you are gun ho on an NFL stadium that UNLV will be renting and praise it for recruiting benefits to the school. Hmmm interesting 03-drunk

Is there a time-frame for this thing? I'm guessing July 2019 but who knows.

The whole Raider identity was made for Vegas. They shouldn't go by Vegas though...do something like Golden State does and go by the Sin City Raiders.

Given the same option we chose to buy Turner Field over playing in the Falcons need stadium.

Cheers!

+2

Considering the piss poor location of their generic off-campus stadium now...this move to the strip (and closer to campus) would be a big improvement.

That's usually not a problem (Bulls and Bucs sometimes play on same weekend...same for the Canes & Dolphins)...and I doubt it would be a problem for Vegas teams as well.

Happens to us all the time. Week one the Georgia Dome hosted 3 games in 3 nights.

A lot of Las Vegas residents will go see unlv football. I can't wait to take my kids if this stadium really does happen. I have no desire to go to the current stadium. Raider football will be more for tourists and definitely not the place I will take my kids.

So stealing is ok as long as the majority says it's ok. Got it, economically challenged.
