CBS Bottom 25
Bad news: 3 out of their 25 are on our schedule.

Good news: If we were still in CUSA it would be worse.

Let's go back and play Southern Miss each year, and forget Ole Miss or Arkansas.

Nobody cares about USM except for about 10 message board loyalists.

I'm all for playing USM but not by forgetting OM or AR or even UTK for that matter. We need to play all 3 whenever they will play us H/H. We need quality wins & we only get them by playing top P5 programs. And since most P5s don't want to schedule us H/H, when we find those who will, we need to schedule them.

why would we ever play usm?

their stadium sucks

they have no tv contract

they are historically a dirty team

nobody cares about usm ( obviously you do, but there are not 100 more like you)

Oh, 10? 100?

OK.

Bama is prolly itching to come to Memphis every other year.
Whatever.

Ned was being generous.

Just go back and look at the attendance numbers from this "rivalry" game.

Their fans don't travel, our fans don't travel. We aren't playing for conference titles.

That Georgia State game is a real head scratcher. And giving them a home game too, right? Makes no sense. I suppose they are trying to get some kind of presence in Atlanta.

Yeah, and Memphis is doing a H/H with ASU (Arkansas State, not the Sun Devils).

I don't mind making a trip there once in a while, like a three for one. Plus, leverage wise, it would seem they would be willing to at least accept a two for one, instead of a straight up h/h.

Why would they accept a 2 for 1 when they can just do a buy game for 500K

For a team like ASU, getting an opportunity to get a game in the Memphis market is worth it more. If Memphis says 2 for 1 or no game, do they pass on the opportunity to get a three year stretch to get some local traction to instead play a home and home with Tulsa or get paid for an ass whooping by Baylor in Waco?

That one game is the reason. One of the last times Memphis went to stAte, there were choppers in the air to take areal photos of the largest home crowd on record or some such. What we see when we go play there as it pertains to attendance? Yeah, that's not normal for them.

And from a bargaining standpoint, Memphis, in NO way, needs ASU. But, like you note, ASU does very well from that game. So, if ASU wants that big game vs. Memphis they can get it for a 2 for 1. If not, they can get nothing and like it.

Nope.

More importantly, attendance figures don't back it up either.

If we can't beat ASU, then we know where the season is going to go. Easy trip for our fans, extremely big for ASU. And they actually bring a few fans to the Liberty Bowl, which is more than I can say for most conference foes and other non-P5 games at home. Mississippi has done the same for us for 50 years now. I say we pay it forward and ASU or MTSU are the best candidates.
