future conference look
I was thinking that since most of the candidates for big 12 expansion were from the AAC it is clear that we are not far (as a conference) from climbing that ladder to power conference status. Obviously our conference schools took this seriously and are looking for better situations. The AAC teams need to keep this momentum going and work together and be there there to pick up the pieces when the Big 12 breaks (and it will break when Texas and OU leave for where ever). With that theory in mind, here is my prediction for what the AAC (Big 16) could look like in a few years.

East
1. West Virginia
2. Cincinnati
3. Temple
4. ECU
5. UConn
6. UCF or USF
7. Navy
8. Memphis

West
1. Houston
2. OSU
3. Baylor
4. Kansas
5. TCU
6. Texas Tech
7. Kansas State
8. SMU

Iowa State, Tulsa and Tulane are out. I personally would rather see Tulane in and the Florida schools out. UConn could move to the ACC so that would change it up a bit. I would also like to see BYU added (just because). This is all just my SWAG as to what it could look like. OK, your turn...make your predictions.

I'll play along. Navy would be gone and both FL directional schools would be in.

If the B1G wanted KU, KU would be in the B1G.

B1G didn't want Mizzou, but will want KU?

RE: future conference look
The ACC has had several opportunities to add UConn & have consistently said no. That won't change in the future unless UConn develops a quality FB program on the field & with fans in the stadium - & there is nothing to indicate that will happen. Since the B1G has shown themselves to be more market driven - see Rutgers, they are a more likely destination for UConn than the ACC (B1G loves market schools that don't threaten the dominance of OSU, Mich, Michigan St). But most likely is that UConn stays in the AAC until their money advantage runs out & then UConn will likely de-emphasize FB, attempt to join the BE (better keep BB going well).

They wanted Rutgers and Maryland

I know basketball is 2nd fiddle but Kansas is a top 5 program

That could play into it

Plus Kansas City is Jayhawk country

They'd take that market for the B1G network

Plus the whole AAU thing. Is Mizzou AAU?

Yes, Missouri has been an AAU school almost from its inception (over 100 yr I think).

RE: future conference look
You have to fill ACC, B10, SEC and Pac12 with 16 before you can put the leftovers together

ACC needs 2
UCONN & WVU

SEC needs 2
OU and OSU

PAC12 needs 4
Texas, BYU, Hawaii, Colorado State

BIG10 needs 2
Notre Dame and Kansas

Now, turn the rest into a 16 team conference (if we can't get in this one, forget about it )

Baylor
TCU
Texas Tech
Kansas State
Iowa State
USF
UCF
ECU
Cincinnati
Houston
Tulane
SMU
Tulsa
Ran out of teams…I think we're in!

There are reasons why both UConn & UWV will likely never be invited to the ACC. So you can forget that scenario.

Secret reasons that you can't divulge here, but OK. They will still go to 16 and we'll still be with a group of leftovers unless they take us. If the group of leftovers can pull it off, it will still be P5 and a decent conference (better than any we've been in since the Metro)

Iowa State is AAU as well, along with Texas and Kansas, but it doesn't make any difference. I occasionally read the Cyclones board and some posters think that either the SEC or Pac12 will pick them up because of their academics, lol.

I can see Iowa St missing the cut for the P4 or whatever you want to call what comes after the Big 12 death. Can't see Kansas missing it though. Argue all you wantbabout how, and where, and when, but that is my take.

OSU would find a home but it will not be in the SEC with OU. Noway they take a school in state they already have. They would take OU in a heart beat but if they demanded OSU tag along then they pass. The SEC would not have a problem finding two quality willing schools in two new territories.

No, as stated above, the ACC has had several opportunities to invite UConn but has always passed over in favor of another school(s). It's history for all to see. Further, apparently gathered from discussions on other boards, the UConn president is not held in high regards by several ACC presidents & the ACC FB schools have consistently voted against UConn. The B1G is a more likely destination for UConn if they get a move up at all. Given the Rutgers invite, the B1G seems more interested in market than the value on the FB field & they might still have appetite for another eastern program to chalk up wins for their leaders.

UWV seems to also have been dismissed by the ACC. Even after a personal appeal by the UWV pres to several ACC presidents before UWV accepted a B12 invite, there was no interest from the ACC. Culture says they consider UWV lower academically, socially, & the UWV market is small. UVW is more aligned with Penn St than the ACC other than Pitt traditionally & if the ACC isn't an option might also get B1G interest.
