Diaco refuses to talk Civil Conflict any more: “I’ve had enough of that conversation externally.”

He can't tell us who are rivals are. Only trophies can do that.

This is why UConn must win at all costs.

Lol. Does he think it's ridiculous

He's obviously embarrassed of his child if refuses to acknowledge it. It is tragic.

UConn's Diaco dismisses talk of rivalry he created

By Neill Ostrout | 0 comments

STORRS — The man who fired the first shot in the Civil Conflict has put down his arms.
Well, he’s reduced his rhetoric anyway.
UConn football coach Bob Diaco, who invented a name and created a trophy for the Huskies’ extremely young rivalry with Central Florida last season, has on the verge of this week’s game in the series refused to discuss it.
The Huskies (3-4, 1-3 American) host the Knights Saturday in East Hartford with the Civil Conflict trophy, which Diaco later changed to the ConFLiCT, back up for grabs.
But when asked about the second meeting since his christening of the rivalry, Diaco seemed perturbed that a reporter would even ask about it.
“I’ve had enough of that conversation externally,” Diaco said. “I’m not going to get into all that business.”
Still, it seems that Diaco is keeping his team motivated by continuing to reference the trophy and the name internally. His players are still discussing it, apparently.
“Any rivalry game is going to be fun and it adds a little excitement to the practice week and to the game itself,” UConn tight end Alec Bloom said. “It’s different playing for a trophy in the regular season than it would be any other time.
“It just reminds me of all the work you put in and what it took to beat them last year,” Bloom added. “And it reminds you that you get to play them again.”

I hope that's not it.

It's a cool rivalry game. The fact that it's drawn all this attention means it HAS to go on now. Why waste all that heat?

It may be manufactured heat but it's a fun game now.

This has to be so awkward for UCF. Do the Knights even acknowledge the trophy?

They didn't acknowledge the rivalry, but said that they would take the trophy last year if they won.

I think that Diaco is tired of UCF not acknowledging it and the national media mocking him for creating it. I am guessing that the rivalry and trophy are now just an internal tool for motivating the team for this matchup.

Oh well. It was fun while it lasted.

Oh well. It was fun white it lasted.

Hopefully, Frost will work this out with Diaco. It's tough when there is a regime change. O'Leary was on his way out early last year, so I wouldn't think too much of it not being acknowledged.

Now that the ship has been righted, and you have an offensive master versus a defensive master, I think the time is right to start passing that thing around. This game could easily have big Eastern ramifications for years to come.

It should be a tough game on Saturday. The constant 20-30 mph winds and occasional 40+mph wind gusts are going to make things hard on both QB's ability to pass. If UCF is forced to only run, it plays into UConn's favor. Also, the wind chills should make it feel like the low to mid 40's, which is a nice touch. Either way, I expect a close game.
04-cheers

What is funny is that USF usually sees unusually cold weather when we meet at The Rent, too. The weather seems to favor the Huskies whenever a Florida team comes to visit.

I think the cold and rain especially effect teams from this region. It's like our teams are going to Siberia to play
