I still honestly believe that WMU can hit 2 million a year gor PJ. Which would keep away the Purdues of the world. If he gets offers from Oregon, Texas, LSU then he'd be dumb not to take that job.

What about his staff getting a huge raise, they are as much responsible for the success as PJ and he knows that. Don't be surprised if Purdue pays in the $3 million range for the right guy

RE: Distractions?
Purdue is on record saying they have funding to really upgrade everything.

They pay him that much here, the case to justify it to the state would have to be a good one. Our general fund tightens up the athletic budget and the state tightens up the general fund.

RE: Distractions?
Just a comment...Not saying that Fleck will stay or go. No one really has any idea.

But, I can offer a bit of perspective when CMU went though this type of thing with Kelly and Jones.

First off, it can suck for the players. The constant questions, attention, rumors, is he staying? Is he going? who is he interviewing with, etc. can be very draining emotionally. Remember, these kids came to play football for THIS coach and staff. Not someone new. Not someone they don't know. Not someone who may change the system, positions, etc. It's all very unsettling and nerve wrecking, just the unknown wears on a person.

CMU's boards were on fire in November and December 2006 with possible scenarios. People saying Kelly would stay. People saying Kelly was gone. There were even people reporting on if Kelly's car was in its usual spot at the athletic offices. Someone reported on airplane flights, where the flights were going and times of when Kelly wasn't around the football offices when he normally would be. It was crazy.01-wingedeagle

I doubt I'll ever forget the video I saw of a young Dan Lefevour, (had just been elevated to starting QB in the first game of the season and took CMU through the season to the 2006 MAC Championship game and subsequent bowl game) sitting next to Brian Kelly after the MAC Championship game saying something to the effect of: "We won and we will have Coach Kelly with us for the bowl game..."

In about 72 hours Kelly was gone and was announced as the head coach of the Cincinnati Bearcats...

You go from the incredible high of winning and happiness to all the air being let out and feeling awful. The mood swing is bad. And many of you will feel that swing... if he leaves at some point now and if any of you have bought into what Fleck has been preaching.

And you will feel betrayed. It will happen. Jones had the catchy phrases about family and "Hold the Rope" slogans, etc. It all will feel hollow and insincere and hypocritical. And it will suck.

Its almost impossible for a coach to turn down the kind of money/package that a P5 school is able to offer. The coach has to think about his own family (not the football one) and really, all his assistant's family members also who would be in for a large pay raise. Its a lifestyle & future life changer.

Its really unfortunate that it is set up this way in collage football, but this is the way it is.

Speaking from past experience, if/and/or when Fleck gets a P5 offer... he is so gone. The only way he stays is if WMU can somehow match his best offer, which is just so hard for a G5 school to do.

So enjoy it, but also know what waits just around the corner in a month, month and a half or so.

RE: Distractions?
Everyone who talks about him leaving for the money have obviously never found true happiness in their job. I was miserable for 9 years in a profession I loathed until I'd finally had enough and took a pay cut to try something new. I absolutely love my new field, and would not take a 5x payraise to go back to being miserable.

PJ said he's made one big decision in his life based on money, and he will never make that mistake again. I fully understand what he's talking about. If he leaves, it WILL NOT be due to money.

I'm ALWAYS happier when I have a good gig that's crushing cash in my chosen field of work. 03-nutkick THAT kind of money is a game changer. Not having to work again, family set up well, etc. Plus it's still a coaching job. Please Pollyanna.

You didn't see his wife basically interviewing for the Purdue job in that Ft. Wayne article?

Just curious. How would you expect her to talk about her husband in an interview? "Yeah, he's ok."?

Just answering PR. How about "no comment, he will answer when the time is right"

The moral of the story is a MAC school goes back to being average because they get a below-extraordinary coach.

CMU and NIU sustained some success, but it fidnt last. Miami's the Cradle of Coaches because they kept leaving and now they're horrible.

RE: Distractions?
My big concern is that all the speculation will distract the team. I suspect that PJ addressed this before the season with the team.

Sure, they are saying the right things now but over time it can take a toll.

Did you go to WMU? You sure act like some d-bag that went to CMU...or even OSU. But if you're referring to a young person as a millennial, you ARE likely an old boomer who probably couldn't get into anything other than BFE Community College. Keep slinging the insults, grandpa 03-lmfao

BFE Community College? That an attempt to rattle me? You sound like a kid who can't get off of his parents couch enough to go look for work, let alone pay for college at WMU.

Hey great name, where did you learn to speak Spanish?

Oh, so you're not the early twenty something hipster you protray yourself to be here huh? The minute I acknowledge you being young, you pull out the "I have kids card" to counter. The dead giveaway you idiot, is that kids don't post here, they're all over snap chat, instagram and twitter to name a few.

Web boards are for fossils like me, and obviously behind the times bowl cut Grand Rapids people like you.
