There are usually threads about those 2 schools when UCF plays them on various boards (UCF destroyed FIU earlier this year...as there was mentioned of FIU's crazy 4 tickets for $44 deal that included food and drink for all too)...but I don't think either of them are conf members with UCF. (i.e. hence why this thread was started by a USF Fan and not a Miami or FIU fan).

That discussion was as meaningful and fruitful as this one. :))

Do UCF fans just want everyone on this board to individually congratulate them on steller attendance? Would that lessen the tragedy of USF having admittedly poor attendance at a game on a weekend that a hurricane just happened to pass by the general geographic area?

USF must be doing something right to have so many threads started about them by UCF fans

Are you saying that Bullsfanintexas is a fake USF fan who secretly roots for UCF?
Cheers!

I'm interested to see what USF announces for this game. There are not very many people there.

LOL. Doesn't matter what is announced, as opposed to others we will get to know the actual one.

Still 6-1 and 3-0 more important to me 04-cheers

USF has a very good team again this year. I agree with that.

But you are telling me USF sells 30,000 - 40,000 tickets a game and maybe 15,000-20,000 show up? I don't believe it.

You are being over dramatic. USF has announced 35-36k and had 25-26k in seats in the first two games. Even the hurricane game it was 30k announced 17k there.

You don't have to believe anything is actually accounted for.

Still if that's important to you. 04-cheers go right ahead.

Fwiw, you are seeing the away side on camera. The home side, the side you don't see on camera is always much, much fuller. You just can't see it on camera. Ever. The camera points to away side of stadium. People don't realize this. This creates a somewhat false narrative of the USF crowd.

Still the crowd should have been better, and USF's attendance needs to improve a lot, as all of ours does.

I happened to see a Tulane home game in 2011, it was against Syracuse, in the Super Dome. Announced attendance was 39,000.

I have been to the SD many times, and I know that in a place that cavernous 25,000 can look like 10,000, but trust me, there weren't more than 3,000 people in the house, and the tailgating in the parking lot consisted of about 3 guys roasting wieners in an empty parking lot. Most pathetic football experience of my life.

Great game, though. IIRC Tulane played an inspired game against a heavily favored Orange team and it went down to the wire. But they couldn't build their own stadium fast enough.

I'm tired of all these same stupid attendance threads. Yes all of our schools need better support and yes Tampa needs to show up and support the Bulls. If some one to keep the same BS over and over go ahead. None of us in this board are the issue we are the die hard that care and support our schools thru good and bad.

Props to USF's Women's Basketball Coach (very successful too) for ripping on the "deserving" lack of support for USF's "winning" football team. This article from Tampa Bay Paper from Saturday's game, where author noted yesterday (after article was printed), the actual attendance was:

(10-14-2016 12:27 PM)BullsFanInTX Wrote:  Recently there was a thread about USF attendance. USF is the only school among 128 FBS schools that releases announced attendance (what everyone else, all other 127 FBS programs, releases on a week to week basis), AND ALSO has an actual turnstile number given (none of the other 127 FBS programs have this number given on a week to week basis, mainly due to playing in OCS's, but also other reasons. This is because USF plays in a public stadium and the actual figures are released by the Tampa Sports Authority. So, naturally, some feel USF "fudges" announced attendance numbers more than others. This notion is a lie. All announced attendance numbers are tickets distributed, not actual turnstile. I posted about 10+ articles to this fact, and honestly, I could have posted 100. Your school is not unique. Every team in every major sport uses announced/tickets distributed, which is significantly more than who actually attends, in every case. And, that's true, whether you are talking about NCAAF, MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL, to minor league sports. In every single case where a study has been done, the announced figure is always higher, and usually significantly so, than an actual number.

On a few occasions, local beat writers for NCAA football teams (other than USF) were able to get actual numbers. Kentucky, Memphis, and UConn come to mind. And in every single case the actual turnstile number was significantly less than the announced attendance. Your school is not special. Everyone uses an announced number, and not an actual number.

Recently, a writer was able to obtain an actual number for Illinois football games this year (to my knowledge the only other program that had announced vs. actual numbers released weekly this year for every game) other than a few spotty other numbers released. And, guess what, their actual is way less than announced! This is not unique to any program but done across the board. Every single time a writer was able to obtain an actual figure, it ALWAYS came out to significantly less than announced. Your school does this too. If you think they do not, then you simply do not understand how the process works. Every MLB, NFL, NHL, NBA, NCAAF, and minor league team "pads" announced attendance numbers over the actual turnstile number. Again, we could provide over 100 articles proving this fact.

At any rate, here were Illinois actual vs. announced attendance numbers. Enjoy.

Sellout ... but plenty of empty seats

Tue, 10/04/2016 - 7:00am | Jeff D'Alessio

Officially, Illinois’ Sept. 10 night game against North Carolina went down as the first “sellout” at Memorial Stadium since Michigan came to town in 2011. But the actual turnstile count — different than the tickets-distributed number you’ll hear read over the PA system at any major college football stadium — reveals that the bandwagon still has seats available:

Sept. 3: Murray State

Announced: 48,644

Actual: 32,630

Sept. 10: North Carolina

Announced: 60,670

Actual: 47,877*

Sept. 17: Western Michigan

Announced: 40,954 '

Acutal: 25,601

* — The turnstile count for the UNC game beat the same figure for the best-attended home game of 2015 — Ohio State, on Nov. 14 — by 5,671 fans.
USF is not the only one releasing actual.

As far as on a week to week basis, it seems the USF beat writer, Joey Knight, is about the only writer who gets these numbers on a weekly basis from any program in FBS. There could be a couple other examples though, but it's rare.
Our beat reporter did the same for years.

They likely have an actual count. Those schools' beat reporters likely aren't asking or FOIA the stadium authority to get those numbers. This usually is a sign of passive aggressive attitude by local media towards Non P5 schools. It's basically trolling because nobody is questioning butts in seats except at the mid major level.
