The point is that the Grizz cut a guy who is now playing at an all-star level. Which means either Whiteside worked his tail off to be better or the Grizz did a poor job of getting the most out of him and finding a spot. Maybe a combination of both. DJ isn't a center, but that doesn't mean he can't get it together after leaving the Grizz.

So who in your opinion should they have cut to keep a 6-5 guy that can't take anyone off the dribble or shoot a good percentage ? I don't get what your point is. They cut Whiteside because they had Gasol and Koufos at the time

My point is that Stephens can still work to get better and earn an opportunity with another team.

Not if he can't shoot or handle the ball at his size

DJ is limited in some areas much like Tarik Black. If he was Tarik's size he would be a NBA star due to work ethic.

He is very close to being an NBA player now. This is not a fairy tale thing. Watching him his first year vs now shows a totally different and vastly improved player. No ifs or buts about it.

I'm not saying he isn't. Your analogy though is a little ridiculous. Every player is going to be better if they were 4-5 inches taller. Hell, I probably would have been a D1 player if I were 6'7 instead of 6'2.

I sure was hoping that he would make the Grizz roster. Maybe he showed enough to catch on with another team.

Not necessarily better. You have to have the athleticism to pull it off. Think of Thabeet.

So much to love about DJ, but he's just a tough fit for most NBA teams, and you can't keep him for his work ethic, fan likeability, etc. I hope he is able to find a system which works for both parties.

Why do u Dudes keep kidding your selfs, the Dude has to have a jumper and be able to dribble, he does that he's in the NBA. MIKE Wilson had the same problem, maybe D.J. needs to be a Globe Trotter, he has the hops and personality for it and the fans would love the Dude
