Basketball Future
Can Liberty be the next Gonzaga or Wichita St.? Can we be a national power that develops from a low level conference?

I imagine the ingredients are wins, a quality coach with longevity, a great fan base, a good campus atmosphere, and the potential for national exposure.

RE: Basketball Future
Obviously, I would like for Liberty to be a basketball power but if I had to choose, I'd prefer football strength over basketball strength in an either/or situation. Luckily, we can be good at both but that's easier said than done. To get a basketball notoriety like Gonzaga or Wichita State we'd have to have a great coach with a senior-filled team or a transcendent player(s) who turned down bigger schools. All we have to do is win.

In my opinion, I think getting a consistent tournament appearance would greatly help our aspirations to getting into FBS. The easiest way for a conference to make money is with the NCAA tournament and if we could push the Sun Belt, CUSA, MAC, or whoever from a one bid into a two bid league then we could shoot up to the top of a shortlist for expansion.

RE: Basketball Future
A consistent NCAA tourney appearance would be great, and very difficult in a one bid conference. But doing that would lead to much more exposure and easier recruiting. I'd rather have a consistent football winner too but basketball seems like it would be easier to sustain based on smaller player number needs. It would help to get good enough to start winning a few marquee matchups out of conference play.
