Today, I am an ECU Pirate!
Bravo! Fans, alumni and donors forced ECU to change course. On to the NCAA, ACC and NFL....04-rock

http://www.witn.com/content/news/395523401.html

We regret the actions taken by 19 members of the East Carolina University Marching Pirates on game day October 1st felt hurtful to many in our Pirate family and disrespectful to our country. We understand and respect this is an issue where emotions are strong.

The Marching Pirates continue to be fully supportive of all the values the East Carolina University community holds dear.

We have met with the band and the members have collectively reaffirmed their commitment to the unique privilege and responsibility that comes with wearing the uniform of the Marching Pirates.

College is about learning, and it is our expectation that the members of the Marching Pirates will learn from this experience and fulfill their
responsibilities. While we affirm the right of all our students to express
their opinions, protests of this nature by the Marching Pirates will not be tolerated moving forward.

Money talks. They need money. Angry donors don't give money nor do they spend money on purple things.

Due to the protest of the ECU band members, the ESPN radio affiliate in Fayetteville is refusing to broadcast ECU's game this Saturday.

Outstanding move by ECU. I won't support their athletic programs but I will publicly support their administration on this.

Sounds like they talked some sense into their band members too.

I love it.

Also, I feel like considering the move made by ECU on the issue the radio station should move forward and air the game. Just makes sense.

Now a female professor wants to exercise her 2nd amendment rights by carrying a pistol to class since the band students were allowed their first amendment rights. Full blown lunacy has broken out at ezu.

Not lunacy at all. Universities have been playing this game of "rights, supporting those they agree with and locking down those they disagree with. Nice to see someone take advantage of the spotlight to point out their hypocrisy. They, along with almost every other university, have a variety of "respect" compacts and speech codes that severely limit free speech to boot.

Not to mention part of the reason shooters can target college campuses so easily is because guns aren't allowed to be carried by responsible owners. Just saying. I know she was making a point about hypocrisy, not necessarily a statement on gun-carrying on campuses, but still.

NC law permits a weapon to be in a vehicle on campus, but not on a person. If she did this, she could be arrested. Again, I do love her opportunistic statement about freedom and the Constitution on college campuses.

Perfect timing.

Only with a concealed carry permit. And it has to be locked up, with the exception of entering or exiting the vehicle.

RE: Today, I am an ECU Pirate!
Here at Camp Lejeune, I see open carry on a regular basis. Have no problem with it, and in fact feel safer because of it. Criminals don't tend to sport a weapon on their shoulder or hip for everyone to see...because they're criminals.

The only open carry I worry about is a weapon openly used in committing a crime.
