Future nonconference schedules
I find it interesting that many schools (including a number of our MAC peers) have nonconference matchups already scheduled out almost a decade in advance. By comparison, we are locked into far fewer dates, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.
Here are our future nonconference games as of now:
2017: at USC, at Michigan State, Idaho
2018: at Georgia State
2019: at Michigan State, Georgia State
Next year is obviously pretty much a done deal at this point (except for our assumed FCS foe), but I hope we've learned something from how we scheduled this year (and subsequent success) and schedule accordingly in 2018 and beyond:
- 1 or 2 middle-of-the-pack or lower-tier P5 schools
- at least one home-and-home with a G5 school
- one FCS opponent
Off-topic slightly: a number of the P5 conferences (B1G, Pac-12, Big XII) are now playing nine conference games. Has there been any discussion of the MAC going to nine conference games? I would be all for that, but haven't heard any discussion of that possibility.

RE: Future nonconference schedules
There's small talk -- dunno how credible it is -- that the B1G will end up in the not too distant future, going to 10 conference games. Totally eliminating FCS schools, I would imagine they'd each basically play a P5 opponent and a G5. So there'd be less MAC/B1G matchup availability, as it already has 9 now.
I wouldn't mind 9, but I think G5s are going to have pressure to schedule FCS schools since there's going to be less and less room for FCS to play P5s outside SEC. Basically I think it'd be a requirement of the 3 non-conf?
I wouldn't mind 9 as long as it didn't hurt our non-conf scheduling.
3 NON-CONF GAME SETUPS:
- 1 FCS
- 1 G5
- 1 P5
- 1 FCS
- 0 G5
- 2 P5
- 0 FCS
- 1 G5
- 2 P5

Would love to see Western play a P5, an academy, and an FCS each year.

Thats my dream situation. I would love either WMU playing at Army, or Army playing at Waldo. You all would love a game at West Point's Michie Stadium. There is no more spectacular place in the world, and the history and traditions are unbelievable. I brainwashed my kid for 17 years to be a huge passionate Bronco, before he became a West Point Cadet. It would also be awesome to have Army come to Kalamazoo. My son would get to take a "Spirit Pass" and make the road trip.
Lets all write letters to KB.

I'm not sure 5 letters are going to make a difference.

Write one for each of your aliases, Persrod. Especially with the new ones.

Maybe wherever #brocoach winds up will give us a home and home series.

The Big 10 has already banned FCS games.
I'm against the 10-conference game schedule. Top MAC teams don't need to play all the weak ones, nor do the Ohio St's have to play all the Rutgers'.

This.
Maybe we can get #brocoach to #movetheband before he bails.

I agree with that. In a 12-game season, 10 conference games isn't great. I like to see a good amount of non-conference games.
Personally, I like 1/3rd NON-CONF, 2/3rds CONF.
Having 1/6th NON-CONF, 5/6ths CONF -- makes it harder to compare conferences + creates a bubble around a conference like it's its own college football Division.
