Better than playing in the Superdome though, they seem totally legit now.

Power 5 Schools Averaging Less than 40K
Colorado = 39,505
Purdue = 35,583
Maryland = 35,474
Northwestern = 34,033
Syracuse = 31,936
Wash St = 30,715
Vandy = 29,966
Duke = 28,063
Kansas = 27,666
Wake Forest = 25,185
Boston College = 22,728

I say again, how are some of these programs considered "power" programs and some of our programs not?

How the heck did Boston College get in the ACC?

Because, as was told to ECU fans repeatedly when we wanted in the Big East and AAC.....Attendance doesn't mean anything. It's all about TV markets. That perception seems to have waned a bit, but TV markets still matter more.

I'm different. I think attendance, for the most part, is directly proportional to the size of the fan base and the interest in your program.

With it being family weekend there will be a good crowd, assuming good weather. My guess is they probably announce something like 48k, and in terms of actual butts in seats it's probably somewhere between 40-45k.

Since moving to Yulman though the student section is considerably more full, and a big percentage of students tailgate now. Last I heard we have about 5,000 student seats, and those are nearly full for each opener and homecoming. We have about 7,000 full time undergrads.

As far as locals go, I've always been surprised at how many people in NOLA who didn't go to Tulane are casual fans and enjoy going to a game whenever we're doing well. So you're sadly probably right about the loyalists number, but I do think with two or three 6-6 or better seasons we'd likely have far more casual fans.

What do you expect? Some of these schools only have 4,000 students.

Navy has 4,000 students, and has averaged over 30,000 year after year

Navy is Navy though. The football players could be the only students and they'd draw well.

They announced yesterday they've already sold 47K. It's family weekend so that's always a good crowd. Assuming the weather is good there will be over 40k in the stands. Now lose this week and we'll start to see the huge drop in butts in seats.

Well, I'm pleasantly surprised. Still, 40-45k actual butts in the seats doesn't feel up to par. Maybe it's just me.

Well, I wouldn't take it for granted. Selling to the local fans has been a bit of a journey, and we've ended up selling the game day experience more than the football itself. That also means that you get some "down in front", and lots of people are tailgating in the second half, and Halloween has lowest attendance of the year.

Other than the absolute biggest of big games you have a couple thousand no shows to every game. What's gonna help this one is you should have a very good student crowd because of family weekend. That's the most important thing because that's where the energy in the stadium comes from.
