IF Fleck left after this season....
Would we hire the Ferris St coach? Or maybe our current offensive coordinator? Either would be a good MAC coach I think. I guess Fleck could take coordinators with him if he leaves though.

I hope he stays, but the season is shaping to be one where MAC teams can't usually keep their coach. Just being proactive with speculation, and wondering where we will look for a replacement if we had to.

The NDSU head coach Chris Klieman should be considered. It is an incredible winning culture at NDSU. They run a similar ball control offense as well. He is currently 31-3 with two FCS NC's.

Believe there will not be much "within" when he goes as the staff is loyal realistically knowing that if he goes big, they go big....salary wise

Annesse is the complete opposite of a bro-coach. That'd be a tough learning curve for the boys.

Odds are strong at least 1 internal candidate would be considered, if they don't go with Fleck.

Yeah, I think for the change to not be so drastic, WMU would want to get a bro-coach type guy.

He'll likely be out of a job in a few weeks, so I'm sure he'd be interested.

I think Klieman could command bigger dollars from a higher profile football school than WMU.

I would've thought that about Bohl, too, but he ended up at Wyoming for less than Fleck makes. Not sure if our next coach will be up at $800k though, probably not.

KB has it written into the contract that if/when Fleck leaves, he must allow for his assistants to be considered for replacement.

Not unless we got a big-namer .... like a fired P5 coach who had good seasons under his belt.

ND-State HC is set for the 2020 season making up to $366k and increasing to $430k in his final year, and making it a bit more expensive than Bohl in buyout costs. I'm sure he'd be an option. He inherited a dominating team and a P5 program would probably want to wait for a few more years under his belt before picking him up. But a non-dominating G5 team like us who's not necessarily riding-on-the-cheap would certainly take a gander at him.

Ferris State HC may be an interesting idea, although he's not a bro to anyone -- if he could get some assistants who exuded that attitude, that may help, I dunno.

Les Miles? Naw. That would be an option maybe after we fired the next coach & Les has been doing ESPN for several years with nobody picking him up.

What section/paragraph of his contract is that stated? You DO KNOW it's public information, correct?

Please let us know.

Mike Sanford is the obvious choice. He has built a friendship with Fleck and has a solid coaching background (coached under David Shaw @ Stanford and now Brian Kelly @ ND). He kinda has that "brocoach" feel to him.

I like that you guys want a BK Broiler guy here. But, he's not lighting the world on fire at ND right now. Hey, maybe #brocoach replaces BK?

You don't know enough ND alums then. For many they tolerated the BK hire, but were not thrilled his highest coaching job was Cincy.

If ND opened, they'll be in the Bob Stoops category this time around, or Peterson at Washington (Former Boise).

I think BK survives the year if they make a bowl, but he'll be on Les Miles type of notice next year.

RE: IF Fleck left after this season....
I think that we get Fleck for ONE more year after this year.... I think he put's us in the spotlight this year and next year makes another push. (however I have no idea who our QB is going to be... Flacco? Wassink? )... I just don't think his overall W/L percentage is enough to open up an opportunity that fits where he wants to be...

As for our next HC... I agree with Nacho.... Mike Sanford sticks out the most... He's another Fleck type personality... Another young gun who comes from similar roots... He's also friends with Fleck...

OR

Fleck leaves behind Ciarrocca who then tabs Simon as his OC.... and Fleck pulls Sanford from ND to be his OC... I could see that happening... that way we have some continuity... Fleck gets his Bro OC and everyone is happy...
