If Fleck was gonna be here one more year you'd think they'd get the backup QB some snaps as well as some younger WRs some play time. We are gonna be YOUNG next year. Scary. Seems like it's all the eggs in one basket type of year. All or nothing. 05-stirthepot

Hate to to say it, but I agree with this.

We were up by like 6 scores in the 4th quarter against NC Central and neither Flacco or Wassink got a chance to throw the ball.

Ricci plays on special teams, Watson has a few snaps but no targets, Curtis nowhere to be seen.

Sure seems like this is the climax year for Fleck.

RE: IF Fleck left after this season....
Well looking at our roster:

Defense:
DE - Lose David Curl and Keion Adams
DB/CB/Safety - Lose Austin Guido, Jeffery Johnson and Justin Fergeson
LB - Lose Jakevin Jackson, Lucas Cherrocci and Kasey Carson

Looks like on defense we have some sizeable depth coming back... could be a huge defensive year for us... not to mention the incoming class.

Offense
QB - Lose Terrell - This is HUGE... but how huge is yet to be determined based on the fact that we seem to be a run first team now... and we might gain some more dimension with a kid with better wheels... Wassink runs better and from what I have heard has a stronger arm... so... who knows.
OL - Lose Jackson Day, Moton and Coleman... OL seems to be DEEP... Moton is going to be hard to replace and so is Day.
RB - Fabian Johnson is the lone senior here... DEEP
WR - This is going to suck... We lose Davis, Henry and Thompson... all three of our starters from this year... this is where we supposedly had depth but it seems that nobody is stepping up to take reps...

TE - All of our TE's return next year

Its by no means bare... but we are going to need to get the backup QB and WR's some reps before years end... we have NIU coming up later that we can hopefully get some reps in there... We better have some solid WR's coming in this year....

That, and the OOC schedule is back to the rougher stuff. USC/MSU replaces NW/Ill.

RE: IF Fleck left after this season....
Really, other than NC Central, I don't think any of the other games were so out of hand that we should have put the "second string" in. And the NC Central game was only the second of the year, where you are still trying to get things in sync with the starters. I bet that throughout the season, when we do have games largely at hand, we will see players lower on the depth chart getting snaps.

It is hard to be critical on that issue at this stage of the season.

I hope you are right. We need to get these younger guys some playing time. If we're beating up on teams like Kent or Buffalo later in the season, I want to see some substitutions.

Yeah, it's out there. I'd like to see that verbage. Not buying that.

I think we will. Particularly at QB. I don't think Terrel is worried about getting huge numbers each week, and Fleck will want to keep him healthy and fresh. At receiver he may want to get Davis some numbers, but I bet he still plays it safe. We have a lot of depth at receiver though, and he will probably get more guys in the mix. I think on defense and the offensive line you want to get kids some experience though, and I hope we have the opportunity to do that along the way.

RE: IF Fleck left after this season....
If Fleck does leave people need to remember this is not an $850k job unless the boosters who are paying about half of that say it is.

And if they do they'll probably want to have some (a lot of?) say in who they're paying.

I was going to mention the same thing. Fleck's pay is kind of special circumstance thing, at least as far as those boosters who passed the envelope to keep him here.

....having said that, I suspect those boosters feel they are getting a decent return on the investment.

Here's what you are looking for... and I don't see anything in there that notes anything specific about his assistants.

It was pointed out to me that was a lot of smoke by someone else, I wanted to give the benefit of responding. Thanks for posting, I sure didn't see any mention of that.

Have been cloesly watching the games this year. If we have a lot of depth at receiver, I'm not seeing it. Other than tosses to running backs, only three receivers are getting catches, and they are all seniors.

That's like, way more receivers than last year.

I hope he stays, but the season is shaping to be one where MAC teams can't usually keep their coach. Just being proactive with speculation, and wondering where we will look for a replacement if we had to.

Key word is "If."

WMU has not won anything so far this season. Non-conference wins have no impact on the MAC Championship.

WMU is 0-0 in the MAC and that isn't going to get Fleck a job interview or new contract anywhere.

Fleck has to get WMU to the MAC Championship Game, and win it, for this post to get serious.

That said, it is nice to have more Big Ten wins than Michigan State right now....
