OMG Lifetime game not so much crowd
A sure once in a lifetime game. Very disappointed in the attendance. Most dominant I have ever seen a Tiger team.

nearly 40K for Bowling Green doesn't seem too disappointing

40K in ridiculous heat with a terrible opponent who brought dozens of fans is not disappointing.

RE: OMG Lifetime game not so much crowd
Why are so many Memphians getting butthurt over the attendance at home? We really haven't had a compelling game at home yet and to put it into perspective, Houston and Cinci both have home stadiums right at 40K. The last two games would have been near sell outs. As Aaron Rogers once said "r e l a x"!

I remember going to Memphis games as a kid and a smattering of people would have been an overstatement. I'm happy to see a culture of winning happening, and the crowds will keep coming!

I once looked over, almost feeling sorry for their fans, then I realized they were wearing orange. They shouldn't wear orange around Memphis Tigers. 03-no

40k is about all you can hope for against teams like SEMO or BGSU. The KU crowd was light, but I think you can chalk that up to the kickoff time. Historically, night games in Sept and Oct always draw better crowds than day games.

Win in Oxford and we'll have close to 50k for Temple. Lose a close one and we'll probably have 42k or 43k against Temple. Lose big and we'll probably have about 37k for Temple.

It is what it is.

RE: OMG Lifetime game not so much crowd
I attended many games at LBS before it was expanded to 63K plus for potential NFL team. It was horribly executed (skyboxes should have gone in first then another level OVER existing seats for shade; most NFL games are played at 12 noon. Many people can't tolerate our kind of heat for health reasons.) and killed the chance for a good Tiger team to have consistent sellouts.

If we still had a 50K stadium, I think our attendance would be close to 45-48K range last year and this year for virtually every game. It's a crazy but true concept-limited supply CREATES demand. You just have to have a pretty good product. With a sold out 50K stadium, the atmosphere was electric.

RE: OMG Lifetime game not so much crowd
I was a little disappointed in the attendance only because it feels like we are so close to turning the corner in terms of perception, interest and attendance. I was hoping for 45 and expecting low 40's so the 38+ was a bit disappointing. With all that said, things are definitely moving in the right direction. I'll be excited to see how we draw for Temple.

I was at the Alabama vs Kent State game yesterday. 11am kick and it was blistering hot. There were a lot of empty seats at the start but the stadium was almost empty in the second half. During the tailgate and post game I heard time and again that it was the heat and the lesser opponent to blame for the low attendance & empty stadium at the end. This is not just a Memphis problem.

IF it is hot and the beer in my fridge is cold, it is tough for someone to leave their sofa and HD TV. It is what it is with technology.

So... you're saying that the "20,000 base true-blue fans we built to by the end of the Tommy West era" has grown to 37,000.

Not at all. Let us lose 3 or 4 in a row and the crowd will be back under 20k.

I was a tad bit disappointed as I thought conditions were right for a >40k turnout, but it was pretty close and the crowd was solid - home side especially. I'm cool with it.

I am not sure what to make of the attendance. I correctly guessed the Kansas attendance while I was there, but I was terribly off for the attendance both other games.

Sure seemed like more than 38K.

We have out drawn all of the AAC through 3 games, and it was SEMO, KU and BGSU. That's good, not bad.

One of the reasons we aren't going to the big12, is because of excuses. To hot,to cold, wrong time, raining, calling for rain and my favorite, a sec game is on when we're playing. We gotta suckered it up and fill the joint. However, I can't blame folks for not going to see cupcake games, I consider them a waste of time. Bowling Green is not a cupcake. We have a good team, get off your ass, and support them. Remember the ACC is giving us a look. 50K the rest of the season, let's get busy. GTG

I don't get the threads biting about the attendance every week. We are going to draw about this every week unless we play decent teams who bring some fans of their own. This number is a decent number for the times and our conference- you should probably check our numbers as it relates to our conference mates. We do pretty well
