Protesters at EMU game
Cops trying to keep protesters off the field. Huddled up in SE corner of end zone. Big campus unrest in Ypsilanti this week. Racial slurs written in various places on campus. Could be an interesting second half. Decent game too.

RE: Protesters at EMU game
It's actually quite refreshing how this whole thing is being handled. The protester are respecting the calm of what's going on. They want to be able to march on the track, and rumor is EMU's prez has offered to let them march on the track after the game.

Can they count the additional police in the official attendance?

I saw a story about somebody trying to mow down protesters in their truck at some point too, didn't find anything about it though. Every part of what happened tonight was handled impeccably.

And a solid win for EMU over a Mountain West program that blasted NIU.

Agree. It's ok to banter individually about our own petty issues with coaches and such.... But this stage tonight needs to be on its own... This stage nationally deserves our respect and observance agree or not.

EMU handled this protest very effectively tonight.... The EMU coach even took the team off the field and directly into the locker room after the final minutes to give the protesters time..... Then brought the team back out to greet the fans for the fight song.... Apparently one of the Wyoming players tried to join the protest... And got yanked away by the coaching staff.... Didn't see it but the announcers made note....

Crazy times right now.... Crazy times.

Wish people would protest the 500+ homicides in Chicago, 30-40% of which are related to drug trafficking and gangs. Hard to dump issues that
that have a large basis in economic and education inequality in the lap of the police. Read somewhere that an Officer is 18.5 times more likely to be killed by a perp than the perp killed by the Officer. Problems are not going
away until the underlying root causes are effectively addressed.

If you lived in Chicago you would know they do constantly. There are celebrity events all the time. Protest marches through the areas of the city hit hardest by the violence. It just doesn't stop it. And for some reason it never makes the news.

It's never fresh when some a-hole pi55es all over a student body's attempt at peaceful protesting for something they believe in with a crappy racist blast.

One positive thing to have come out of this election cycle is all the racists feel liberated to spew their hate publicly, identifying themselves to the rest of us. You are a disgusting human being.

This is completely irrelevant. People choose to be officers. You don't get a choice of skin color or birth parents, idiot.

RE: Protesters at EMU game
Washington Post stats 928 killed by officers in 2015. Officers killed in line of duty approx 50 per year 2010-2014. So that 18.5/1 ratio doesn't sound very accurate.

RE: Protesters at EMU game
It's a meaningless statistic. It's like entering the police brutality debate and saying "did you know the average ocean temperature is 62.6 degrees F?"
