Figured could use some good ULM news besides adding $4 million to our athletics budget annually. On the academic side, after becoming a R3 Carnegie Doctoral university in February, ULM now listed as a National University by US News and World Report.

When I first read the thread title I thought ULM had changed its name. I was looking forward to a USNNU/IUPUI rivalry.

That is good news. Now that ULM and LA Tech are both R3 Carnegie rated, Tech can quit claiming academic superiority over you.

I think the Carnegie designation is exactly why it happened. If memory serves, the Carnegie classifications are what USNWR uses to divide up their categories. After the Carnegie update last year, the newest USNWR rankings moved a number of schools "up" from regional to national (quotes used to acknowledge that classification can represent a difference in focus rather than quality). I believe this is also the first national classification for Texas State and Little Rock (although I could be wrong, especially on the second).

Which SBC schools are National and Carnegie and which are Regional? Definitely nice for as many as possible to be.

You are correct. National University that are not Ranked.

The ranked Universities are Tier 1 schools. There are 3 ranked Tier 1 schools in Louisiana: Tulane, LSU and Louisiana Tech. It takes years of progress and work to reach the Tier 1 designation.

Nah, they made to the minor leagues with the other Sunbelt schools. ULM has got a long ways to go to make it to the majors (Tier 1) with Tech, LSU and Tulane

Problem with comprehension? The Thread title is ULM now US News National University, not Carnegie Classification which btw is not even a ranking according to Carnegie

Tech is a ranked Tier 1 US News National University along with LSU and Tulane.
ULM is now a National University not ranked along with the majority of the Sunbelt.

You really believe this claptrap? You are rated by Carnegie the same as ULM. One notch below UL. USNWR is a sideshow that's good for propoganda purposes....same as Princeton Review is for UL.
