This loss will hurt for a long time IMO. Lost to worst team in SEC, makes the casual fan in KY look at WKU with a small lens now. We finally got a great crowd into the Houch yesterday, only for a lot of those first-timers or casuals to think "dang WKU lost to Vanderbilt. I'll go back to cheering for U.K. And UofL." In a time when WKU is trying to carve a section out of the state for ourselves, yesterday really set us back a bit. Won't be a very good crowd at all next week against HB

Weather will be great next weekend, but I don't see more than 16k after this mess and for a FCS team

It is interesting to look at how Vandy fans see this from a different perspective generally speaking. Beating a CUSA team is expected no matter how good they actually are. If the game is close they talk about all the things they did wrong and how bad their coaching is, etc. Giving up 501 yards to WKU was because of bad defense and not because WKU has a pretty good offense.
They talk about their remaining games and who they think they can or should beat as though all SEC teams are better than WKU or MTSU. We know Missouri, South Carolina, Kentucky, Miss St. and maybe even Georgia are not as good as the best of CUSA. The SEC mentality even trickles down to the bottom feeders.

Still a great day for me. Got up early and went to a cross country meet where a buddy of mine coaches an elementary school team.

Went up to the hill and tailgated with a great group. The whole day in that damn heat.

I honestly believe we were better than Vandy on both sides of the ball as far as starters are concerned. But i also honestly believe there is something to perceived SEC depth. I think the heat got to our team worse than them simply due to numbers. It was certainly a tough loss. I'm not even mad. I don't get mad (long term) about sports anymore.

If I can take solace in anything it's the schaudenfraude that at least we didn't lose to an in-state FCS team and sit at 0-4. I know one school that pretends they invented the game that are sitting in those shoes this morning. Yes....that's weak that I can enjoy that but just being honest.

We need to bounce back next week against Houston Bautista and get right before we go into Tech. That'll be hella game.

I picked you guys straight up in the 'lines' thread.....however, I didn't bet on ya nor us yesterday....

lmao at your prose....it's entertaining and spot on....it's what being a fan is all about

Now you know the curse of losing big games at home. It may take a while to snap that.

We had the third longest home streak in the country going into yesterday. Won some big games during that time, including MU and USM in the CCG.

NOt sure the 200 Vandy fans at the game acted like they had just won the Super Bowl.....

To put it into perspective, this was only their second road win in the Derek Mason era. The other was at MTSU last year. So it was a big deal for them to fight for a win on the road

When you lose to Vandy or KY, then everybody is definitely going to think that everybody in the SEC is better than you. That's just how this works. If Charlotte beat App State, you, me, and everybody else on this board would assume that everybody in CUSA is better than them. It's that whole "perception is reality" thing. That's why OOC games are so important for the CUSA perception, which isn't at a high point currently.

RE: vanderbilt @ wku
Finally got around to watching the replay. I tried to focus on HOW it was that WKU lost and the missed opportunities.

1Q - 11:06 - 7-0 - WKU scores after converting a 4th down in the red zone and an overturned lateral/fumble call
1Q - 4:00 - 7-0 - WKU intercepts a pass at the Vandy 43 yd line. Baker fumbles the ball back to Vandy on the next play (could have called that forward progress was stopped, but that's a judgement call)
2Q - 11:30 - 7-0 - WKU is driving. Goes for it on 4th and 4 in Vandy territory. Norris catches a pass down the seam, makes a few guys miss, is heading for the end zone and then has the ball knocked out from behind. WKU's lineman that was filling in for the starting left tackle is ejected for targeting on the subsequent return.
2Q - 8:18 - 14-0 - Ferguson comes in at QB and throws a perfect 61 yard pass for a TD. The yardage descrepnancy is 235-17 at this point.
2Q - 2:16 - 14-7 - Vandy has a 6-minute, 75 yd drive for a TD. The key plays included a 30+ yd pass play where Johnson (filling in for Ward - injured starting safety) was burned by the Vandy receiver and the Vandy QB scrambling for a first down on a 3rd and 9.
HALF - 14-7 - In WKU's final drive before half (which started on the 35 because of a kick out of bounds), the play calling wasn't very aggressive. Two runs in a row got it to a 3rd and 5, but then a false start penalty made it 3rd and 10. It seems that Brohm didn't trust Ferguson enough to lead the 2 minute offense.
3Q - 9:15 - 14-14 - Vandy takes the opening drive of the second half down the field for a touchdown. Key play was a 38 yard run up the middle by Webb.
3Q - 4:45 - 14-14 - WKU is driving in the red zone (including a 4th down conversion) when a pass is deflected at the line of scrimmage and intercepted at the 2yd line. The receiver was wide open in the end zone.
3Q - 3:10 - 14-14 - Vandy goes 3-and-out and has to punt from their own end zone. It is partially blocked and WKU takes over at the 16.
3Q - 1:20 - 14-14 - WKU misses a 25 yd FG after a three-and-out starting in the red zone. Three straight run plays.
4Q - 11:33 - 21-14 - WKU has a good drive (again), but this time it ends with a 20 yd Wales TD run.
4Q - 9:15 - 21-14 - After a Vandy 3-and-out, White overthrows a WIDE OPEN Taywan Taylor by about 2 yards. It would've been a sure TD. Leads to a punt.
4Q - 5:30 - 21-17 - Vandy kicks a 21 yd FG. Key play in the drive was a 65 yard pass play where the defensive end completely whiffed on a sack and the corner fell down in coverage.
4Q - 1:07 - 24-17 - WKU kicks a 25 yd FG after a drive of all run plays stalls inside the 10.
4Q - END - 24-24 - Vandy ties it up on a dive by Webb. Key plays included a WKU corner letting an interception go through his hands after jumping a route, and a pass interference in the end zone moved the ball to the 2. On the TD play, Leston had a good shot to tackle him the backfield, but only got a piece of his leg as he jumped.

There were AT LEAST 17 sure points left on the field by WKU. It also seems that Brohm either doesn't have a lot confidence in his offense, or was just really conservative in his play calling. Especially the three straight runs after the blocked punt. That's the time to take a shot at the end zone. Momentum is in your favor, and the defense was on their heels. I also didn't like the last FG instead of going for it on 4th and 4. WKU successfully converted 4th downs all day long and firmly believe they were faster than Vandy to get to the edge. The Baker fumble after the interception also really killed an good opportunity for WKU to take control early. At that point, Vandy was looking inept and WKU was moving the ball at will. Also, I didn't realize the ball was deflected off of Wales on the 2-pt conversion. He gets his hands up any quicker and WKU wins.

Some things I noticed from attending the game: Why does the band NEVER play when the opposing team's offense is on the field? Just play a few riffs in between plays or something. It really makes the atmosphere seem dead. Even when WKU's offense is on the field, they have a little riff that they play after 1st downs. Other than that, WKU's band might be the only band I know of that isn't ready to play at any point. Even after scores there's a long pause before they play the fight song. Also, I don't know why they don't play the "get up it's 3rd down" videos for every single 3rd down that WKU is on defense. The crowd ALWAYS reacts to them. I'm not sure if it's someone else in charge this year, but the in-game atmosphere enhancements haven't been there like they used to be.

'Twas my fault.

Every time I pull for Western (which is rare) you guys get beat.

We had the game on in the box, and MToWho assured me that Western was "icing" the win.

I turned around to watch our game, and dammit you let them back into it.

Didn't you guys beat Vandy on a 2-point conversion in Nashville last season ? Or was that UK ?

Western gave this one away. On the field and in start time. I think every G5 fan will agree the biggest difference between us and the middle to lower P5 is depth. Starting this game in the middle of the afternoon helped feed into that. Western usually starts early or late in Sept games.

But I'm sure TV dictated the time...yeah I'm looking for a excuse. But the reality is this loss is all on Western giving it away

You get dropped on your head? The biggest difference tween vandy and kentucky in p5 is depth. Wku? Really? Depth? How about starting players that can't beat the worst historical team in the SEC. Nothing to do with depth. Has a lot to do with crappy football however.........

You, dummy.

Except a lot of key starters for WKU were out.
Ferby (third stringer fumbled), Ward (who's backup got burned several times), Lamp (who's backup got ejected), Dawson-Brents (run stopper), Brown, Nord

it's creepy how you seek me out and say off the wall crazy things.

Let me show you who Western can beat...

Now run on home and stop acting (hope you really are) like a idiot
