Football or basketball? I would love an ongoing series with them in football since Norvell is making it a huge priority to establish a presence in middle TN. I think I heard they declined our offer the last time there was dialogue between both schools but that could have been hearsay

We used to beat them like a drum in football and used to have a very good basketball series with them. (At least back in the 70's). They quit playing us in football and basketball soon followed. I would like to see both sports start a series again.

Vaaahhhhhhhderbilt has their own agenda and they are "Too good" in their opinion to mess with the likes of this little start up in SW TN.

Too bad their law school grads can't pass the TN bar as well and quickly as U of M grads do. The U of M grads also get jobs quicker than they do at Vaaaaahhhhhnderbilt.

Can you say "Snobs". 03-melodramatic 03-melodramatic

Used to have many games with them in the 80's. Very enjoyable. In fact the 1986 22-21 win in Nashville when we came back from a 4th qtr 21-7 deficit was the most fun I ever had at an away game. That was the Tigers only win that season.

Seems I recall going to Vandy a couple of times for Tiger games in 80s.

Oh man was there and remember it well! That was the first half where the idiot on the PA kept screaming "SHOW YOUR GOLD" and the crowd would go crazy. We started chanting it at the end lol.

Bailey looked up at the fans and put his hands up. We cheered go for it and we got the 2 point conversion. No OT back then. Wore white helmets with blue MSU no tiger. We won one game that year by one point. Vandy won one game that year over duke I think.

We won the last 4 out of 5. They lead us 7-5. They don't want any.

I cannot find the numbers to back up these boasts. I know the U of M says this about their graduation rates.

93 percent of Vandy grads are employed nine months after graduation, and 5 percent go on to further graduate school. That is 98%.

Memphis' grads are employed at 98%.

Vandy and Memphis law students in 2015 both passed the bar at the rate of about 72 percent, while UT's law students passed the bar at 83%.

Vandy is very diverse and not necessarily snobby. That is a label thrown at a school by someone who knows little about it and may feel "less than" for invalid reasons. Vandy attracts students from across the nation and is very selective, and many of those students leave Tennessee after graduation to practice law in other states.

I know we played Vandy in the Pyramid when the McCaffrey (sp?) kid played for them circa 1993 or 1994 maybe. I think he was a Duke transfer.

Vandy Tiger

I graduated from law school in 1998. Back then our "claim to fame" was having a higher bar pass rate than UT and Vandy for many years running. Obviously that was a long time ago.

Anecdotal story. My wife graduated from Vandy with a 3.60 gpa. I graduated from Memphis State with a 2.90 gpa. We were in the same law school class at Memphis and I finished higher than she did.

I respect Vanderbilt in every sense.

I don't think they want us. Their OOC MO is one regional program (which we could make work) and a bunch of other smart schools.

They would shoot the lights out v. Memphis in basketball rn.

Some bad blood, from what I understand, in the 1980s

Have no clue what your post means regarding how well they would shoot against us (that's pretty hard to predict) but we are a better BB program than Vandy. A lot of you seem to think the last two years have lowered this program to mid major status.

If Tubby does his job, we will be fine and better than most SEC schools.

Vandy is always able to bust a trey and I am not confident in our perimeter defense.

Was it Vandy that had crazy set up for the benches? The player benches were behind the goals on the end of the court?

RE: Have we ever tried to schedule Vandy in anything?
It's a no-win situation for Vandy in football. They don't recruit Memphis heavily, and if there is a guy here they is considering Vandy, it's probably not actually about football. So they don't need games here for that purpose. We'll probably beat them, even in years we are just okay. And there is no true rivalry. Vandy, in theory, is in the $EC spot we should have had long ago. But they are an academic school, have money, and err, founded the conference. But logistically, long before Nashville was bigger than Memphis, Memphis State made more sense than Vandy for athletic purposes.

For basketball, why would we want Vandy having a regular presence in Memphis? They are actually competitive traditionally in basketball.
