There will be no way this week either team gets ranked. Not enough top 25 teams lost this week and only Oregon, Iowa and Notre Dame are in jeopardy of falling out of the top 25. All the other losses were respectable close losses to ranked opponents. So there isn't going to be much change, except rearranging the order in this weeks rankings.

Central got four points in last week's AP poll, no other MAC team.

CMU, Toledo, and us got one point each in Coaches' poll.

We're not going to go from no votes at all (AP) or one vote for 25th and 40th-something to Top 25 because we beat a bad Illinois team badly.

That game against then #4 Wisky was not a lame NW or Illini team. We were in it until a blown punt return in the 3rd.

This team was ranked and climbing until the "job search" began and we stunk it up against CMU.

We aren't playing as well as that team alone, yet. It could happen though, and then the job searching will begin.......watch.

Amusing that some posters on here can't see us doing better than 9-3 or 8-4, yet now that we're 3-0 against teams that are a combined 3-6 are thinking maybe we should be in Top 25.

Yep, one in the same. Even last week some were hoping that Houston would lose to give WMU a shot at the BCS berth. 03-lmfao

But NO WAY should we be favored to win every game!! 03-melodramatic

RE: Will wmu be ranked?
In 2001 we were 9-1 heading into the final game of the season at CMU. We were as high as the 27th team in the nation. A win would have probably put us in the top 25 of both polls. We were 35 point favorites, which I thought was way to high. Needless to say, we went up to Central and lost by what, a field goal (if I can remember correctly). That was the only time in Broncos football history we came even remotely close to being ranked. Until the Broncos finally get ranked in the top 25 I will neither agree or disagree that we should be ranked. Besides, rankings are more of a popularity contest than anything and in popularity WMU has two things going against them. 1) We are a directional school and 2) we are a MAC school. Back in the early 70's Toledo went undefeated what, 4 years in a row and I think the highest they were ranked in that stretch was #5. Let's wait to see how the season plays out and if we do get ranked that's great and if we don't it's not the end of the world.

RE: Will wmu be ranked?
No, we won't be ranked or close to it. But we'll have more votes. If Illinois beat UNC solidly last week, we would maybe creep up pretty close to it. When beating them, it also sent the message that Illinois is not there yet.

Quote:Amusing that some posters on here can't see us doing better than 9-3 or 8-4, yet now that we're 3-0 against teams that are a combined 3-6 are thinking maybe we should be in Top 25.

Well, after winning both state-of-Ill games, I can see us being 10-2. It would be a real disappointment if we ended up 8-4 with 2 of our bigger games out of the way with wins.

Possible Losses That Shouldn't Shock Anyone:
- GA-Southern: We have an edge over them and haven't forgotten. They struggled against LA-Monroe, which wasn't impressive but may have been looking ahead toward us?

- @CMU: The toughest game on our schedule, and I speculated/said so when the season began if CMU looked good. They do. This one I would actually expect to be the underdog to a small degree. It's at CMU. It's at CMU, and we're in the same ballpark of a team, as they're good this year.

- Toledo: They want revenge and could be really good this year, not missing a beat. Expecting it not to be a barn-burner either way would be silly. Thank gawd it's at home.

Possible Losses That Could Happen:
- @Akron: Fear the 'roo. They crushed @Marshall, and although Bowden doesn't have anything special, they'll be cracking some eggs in the East now that BGSU is no power anymore.

- @Ball State: Fiesty team that's capable. Had a bad showing against Indiana notably early on, but they have an offense that will test our D, and could beat us if we overlook them and they have a great game.

To other folk's point ... neither big 10 program is any good. Beating them sure is better than losing but that would have had a whole different context.

Don't remember the date but that Illini team WMU beat at Ford's Field was far more a challenge as they were far better a team. So beating them and as WMU did that game alone trumps yesterday.

Cant blame this year's WMU squad that this years Illini stink (something I have been trying to convince others since this past February). But fans keep thinking b10 and they get stars in their eyes.

And I'm not saying this years WMU squad isn't as good as that WMU team either. You cant judge by the number of wins and losses. It comes down to how good were the teams they beat and lost to.

That Ford Field Illini team was light years better than last years BG team to help put it in context. Light years!

Better than this year's Illini, yeah. Probably not better than BG last year. They finished with 5 wins.

So 39th in both polls - SOOOO close to Top 25!

Interesting North Dakota State - who isn't even FBS - is eleven spots ahead of us in AP.

Only poll that really matters is last one anyway. If we take care of business as we should we'll be there in December.

It was Appalacian State's victory over Michigan that changed how the AP writers voted. Before that day either they couldn't or wouldn't vote for an FCS team in the FBS top 25 poll. But, at the time of their win over the Wolverines, the Mountaineers were the 2 or 3 time defending FCS national champions and many people across the country thought they should be ranked especially since at that time the Wolverines were ranked. So, now the rule is, the writers can vote for any FBS or FCS team they want in the FBS AP Top 25 poll.
