I like the ULL moniker much better than Loser Tech. ULL should be glad they're called that.

For what it's worth, here's why I use UL Lafayette and ULL instead of Louisiana and UL:

As a member of the media, there's no way in hell in not going to use the monikers that are nationally accepted for your school. I understand your plight and I imagine that many in the media might even be sympathetic to the cause, but none of us will ever stray from standard/approved nomenclature just to make one fan base happy.

I'll use Cajuns or Ragin' Cajuns, but when you write the school/team's name a dozen or more times in a piece, you have to change it up. And that's when I use UL Lafayette and ULL. If it's any consolation, I'm not just picking on you guys. Back when GS was in the SoCon I routinely smiled and nodded at - and then completely ignored - personnel from UT-Chattanooga who (against all NCAA and media naming guidelines) insisted that we only call them Chattanooga.

I like helping and appeasing people when I can, but I like being accurate and correct much more.

There you have Cajun fans, and the rest of the media outside of Lafayette does the same thing.

There is nothing respectful about what you are saying. What other schools in the UL System? Only ULM and Louisiana have the UL names. They chose to brand themselves as ULM and we chose Louisiana.

Do you call Nevada Reno, Nevada? Do you call Nevada Las Vegas, UNLV? Do you call Nebraska Lincoln, Nebraska? Do you call Texas Austin, Texas? Do you call Texas El Paso, UTEP? Do you call Cal State Fresno, Fresno State? Do you call Virginia Tech, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State College? No, you call each school by their branded name, not their official name.

Why, then, will you not call us by our branded name, Louisiana, and ULM by its branded name?

Nevada Reno is a flagship University and the only university in Nevada for 60 years....they were called Nevada State and UNLV (southern campus) was a branch of the University developed later....no comparison.

Your argument isn't with me,take it to the capital....and I hope you get it exactly how you want it.

Well I guess we will have two ASU, two GSU, ULL, ULM, TWO TSU,UALR I don't think that fans would like that on this board the easiest thing to do is call us Cajuns or Ragin Cajuns and no one gets offended to easy now is that too much to ask.

In other words, how much of the concern from ULM folks stems from the idea that having a UL in the state makes UL-Monroe sound like a branch/non-flagship/whatever? Are there still alums who would just as soon have some variant of Northeastern Louisiana back in the name?

I admit that I've been away for most of the summer. However, I do try to check in once a week during football season, but I normally lay low and don't post much.

In regards to the above post...

Do you think UNLV is a branch of Nevada?
I'm not sure if it is, but I've never thought of it this way.

Same goes for UCLA and Cal....or UCF and Florida

They've chosen to brand themselves as ULM, have ULM in the center of their football field, and even on their jerseys. ULM rolls off the tongue well and I actually really like the logo with the full body warhawk. I even like the warhawk head coming out of the middle near the L. I think the plain head on the sides of the helmet still needs some work....but I'm not here to criticize.

You will not find ULL on any merchandise or within our stadiums. It just doesn't exist. Try searching images on Google for "ULM football" and "ULL football".

Sorry for not addressing your main questions, but I just wanted to point out why you would assume they are a "branch" location.
That's total BS. ULL does indeed exist. On TV broadcasts and in print media, you guys are referred to as either ULL or UL-Lafayette 95% of the time. In fact, the ONLY media in the entire state of Louisiana itself that uses the UL moniker for you guys is the media in Lafayette, and some of them don't even use it.

After 25 years or more, if ULL was going to sell John Q. Public on this issue, it would have been done by now. I hate to tell you this, but UL means Louisville to 99.9% of the population in America.
The virus must be weakening. It took only 23 pages before BRherpes chimed in.

My apologies. I must be slipping.

We are getting refusals from media on A-State and Little Rock as well.

Of course when a corporation rebrands something...the media accepts it without question.

They also seemed to accept things like the switch from Dept. of War to Dept. of Defense. Mount Denali.

Puff Daddy, Jefferson Airplane, Snoop Doggy Dogg.

ISIL, ISIS, Islamic State, or Daesh. Take your pick.

What is it about smaller college sports programs that makes the media bow up and assert authority to insist the branding remain the same?

I'm sure the terrorism boards have thread after thread degenerate into ISIL vs. ISIS name debates.

They've threatened to cut out the tongues of anyone who uses Daesh. Don't think we are quite there yet.

I think the problem is those were actual name changes. Our name is Arkansas State, so to get them to call us something different is more difficult. Even though the athletics team is the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, the name of their school is the University of Louisiana Lafayette. That may be confusing to some. The school can not brand themselves as just UL, unlike University of Texas Austin who can just call themselves Texas. And just like we can call ourselves Arkansas State instead of ASU-J. They have their state government to thank for that.

In today's Jonesboro Sun. Anderson said regarding the QB competition, "...so it's taken us three weeks to find out. Unfortunately we've done it at the expense of three loses maybe." Ouch!!!

Did Voytik play, or coach defense?

My bad make that play only, because nobody coaches your defense.
How are your clients feeling about your analyses about now?
Glad this thread reappeared, the answer after the dust settled was the inevitable pretty darn good.

Did not make the 9 win +/1 target but it was obvious as the season wore on that coaching decisions, especially by their HC ,not talent was the biggest reason for three maybe four of their loses.

For A-State fans- just be glad your program is at the point that it can put together 9-10 win roster talent, because Anderson & Company can win 7-8 games with it, and have fun doing it.
