Not all that surprising.

Bohl made a radical system change (from Spread to "Pro-style" offense) when hired and had to recruit to it.

He's now in his third year with more of "his" players.

And game was in Laramie.

RE: NIU v. Wyoming
All good points. Not to mention just how "off" the game was on the whole. Weather delay, fumbles at the goal line (glad to be on the better side of that yesterday), and something like 82 missed field goals.

First game on the road, time change, rust shaking weirdness. I don't think I ever remember a game where a NIU quarterback had negative yards rushing. Maybe just one of those "down" games for the Huskies or maybe they just are what they are. I would gladly take the latter.

I wont count NIU out until they're actually out and we beat them.

Good idea.

Game was delayed by lightning for over two hours. That's got to be huge advantage for home team in familiar surroundings.

A lot of excuses being afforded to NIU that would never have been afforded to WMU in similar situations.

Of course not - nobody on here as EVER made excuses for our coaching or performance.

EMU beat Wyoming in Laramie last year, Cowpokes just beat NIU.

Ergo, we should handle the Huskies easily this year at home.

Right, fan1?

And no excuses if we don't.

If your players were complaining about not being able to breathe at that altitude I think they'd get cut some slack.

You allow for no excuses with this coach, and never will.

As for the EMU-Wyoming-NIU stuff, have fun connecting dots if you want.

Ahhh, the truth comes out. The fighting persrods are still mad.

"this coach" earned his disposition, no leeway. EOD. He needs to deliver after all his noise.

Again, EMU crushed them last year at that altitude. I'm sure Wyoming was going to be better this year, but not a MW winning team or anything.

I could see it being closer-than-anticipated, but yikes.

RE: NIU v. Wyoming
Craig Bohl can flat-out coach. The guy worked miracles at NDSU, winning I-don't-even-know-how-many 1-AA titles and regularly beating nonconference Big XII opponents. You'll see him with a Power 5 job in at the most 4-6 more years.

Combine that with the fact that this was probably the NIU kids' first game at ANY sort of altitude, much less the highest DI (FBS OR FCS) football stadium in America, and I can't say this surprises me at all. And it wasn't like they got blown out...

IIRC, War Memorial Stadium in Laramie sits at 7,215 feet. Unaccustomed athletes feel the effects of altitude in Denver. Travel another almost 2,000 feet higher and those effects are magnified even more.

I'm not treating this game as any sort of referendum on NIU's upcoming season at all.

EDIT: Because I'm a nerd, I looked it up: According to Wikipedia, the highest college football stadium in any division is at Western State University in Gunnison, CO. (I think they're Division II) at 7,769 feet.

Why can't we call this what it obviously is... Wyoming has improved some, NIU has declined some.

who cares and who really knows. The year CMU lost to a 1AA school, they still beat our asses. Thats why they play the games.

Bingo!

Non-conference wins are nice and help the reputation and status of a program, however, they are not part of the conference championship equation.

A MAC Championship is more important than ANY non-conference win or loss.

I know a lot depends on who the opponents were, but isn't it strange seeing Akron with the only win in the East and NIU the only loss in the West?

IF the team keeps roWINg, it will be a HOT time in Detroit on 12/2!!!
