I've been following Paul Myerberg's rankings since his days running the Pre-Snap Read blog. He seems to underrate the P5 bottom feeders (Purdue at 113) and probably overrates the top non-P5 (WMU above USC!), but it's an interesting ranking nonetheless.

At the very least, I appreciate that he doesn't automatically rank all P5 teams over all G5 teams like some writers do. I can't stand the ones that just shill for the Alabamas and the Ohio States of the world.

That being said, BG is too high. Toledo and CMU are too low. WMU also has no business being ranked as high as they are. They could get there by the end of the season, but at this point the team has done nothing to earn a ranking so close to the top 25. Beat Northwestern, Georgia Southern and Illinois...then we'll talk.

Yeah, I'd like to see more pundits do a full ranking like this, just for some insight into their perspectives on the teams.

I'm with you on WMU, Toledo and CMU, but I'm not sure that BGSU is too high. Just as WMU needs to win some games to earn that ranking, the Falcons need to lose some first.

They have a new offense and a new coaching staff. Nobody knows just what to expect from them.

They lost their starting QB, starting RB, 2 starting OL, 5 or 6 of their top receivers. There's no way their offense is as productive as last year.

But I didn't mean to spark an debate about where BGSU should be ranked here. I feel more strongly that these kinds of preseason rankings are meaningless than I do about where individual teams are ranked.

Holy cow we are too high. At the end of the season hopefully we'll be there, but no way yet.

Also, that actually looks about right for Purdue.

I agree -- too high, coming into things. We have a lot to Prove on Defense. Until we do, being above #50 is jumping the gun, IMO.

I think we'll be close to the top 25 this week, but not in it this week. We take go 3 and 0 and then we'll be there.

Maybe you lose to Louisville by double digits, but my Broncos punch them in the beak repeatedly until they have x's on their eyes.
