That was a good one to read...bullet points the journey from HS football in NC to Memphis.

RE: Calkins column on Ferguson
here's what stuck with me. Our former HC was looking at VT job probably before the season started...

"Arkansas State recruited Ferguson hard all season. Justin Fuente and Memphis were interested, too.

“(Former Memphis assistant Brad) Cornelsen told me they didn’t know if they were going to get the Virginia Tech job or not, but he was going to recruit me to both schools,” Ferguson said. “But once they ended up leaving, Coach (Mike) Norvell got the job and right when he got it, the very first week he came and visited with me. I just really kicked it off with him. Our relationship was great from day one.”

I didn't read it that way at all.

I guess it really depends on WHEN Memphis started looking at him.

I truly do not know when Memphis started recruiting him. It does reinforce the mercenary image that many coaches have. While telling you how happy there are where they are...they could be applying for greener pastures elsewhere in the next minute.

I don't doubt that Fuente was talking to VT during the season.

Just don't think it was before the season.

Beamer didn't announce he was retiring until November 1st. Fuente topped the list almost immediately.

Excellent article. Surprising we did so well last year when the coaching staff was planning a move to another school. They seemed to be very distracted after the upset win over Ole Miss, and we had 3 losses in the next 4 games. We could have been in a New Years Day bowl...but they had other plans.

Not so much because of this article but rather by the consistent opinion of how accurate Riley is from a variety of folks, including this article. If this hold true in game situations, we'll be in great shape. Lots of variables but I seeing 8+ wins if our guys can keep TOs down.

The guy threw a ball 50-55 yards down the road and hit the stop sign he was aiming at.

Lynch was able to throw it that far and get it with in reach of the WR. But to be able to put it on such a small spot at such a distance was not lynch's strong point.

Ferguson has a strong ACCURATE arm. Has more touch on the long passes.

I wonder if he could throw it into a hot garbage can from 50 yards?
