Seen that article elsewhere. Interesting item is they say we have 4 returning starters on the OL. With the way the DL has been dominating in practice this could be important. Meaning the DL may actually be for real instead of the OL being weak.

Could be. However, defense always tend to be ahead of the offense. Especially, when there is a coaching change.

02-13-banana I especially like his sentence about the excitement of where we are and the (places that we're going) is pretty remarkable. Maybe the Big XII insinuated?

I know players are not suppose to count wins before the game is played but we (fans) can. You have to believe we beat SEMO, Kansas, BG, Tulane, SMU and Tulsa. So according to this article we only win one other game all season?

I may be drinking the Kool-Aid but c'mon man. Although I don't consider any of the remaining games a gimmie we can at minimum win two of them.

Somebody talk me off the ledge.

Thing is, while Memphis should be favored in all of those games, you can't realistically add those all up and expect to be 6-0 100% of the time. Tulsa and Bowling Green both scored 40+ on us last season and I expect that to be a tough out, home or not.

I think our defense will be much improved this year and Bowling Green lost their starting quarterback and coach like us so it could be a sloppy game for both teams.

Four returners on the OL but three of them are playing new positions on the line. May not seem like much, but different blocking assignments and responsibilities. I definitely think Def will be much improved and I hope that is more of the reality of the situation. GTG!!!

RE: Norvell Article
Changing OL positions from a blocking assignments standpoint is moot. These are college-level linemen.

The OL is vastly unique from any other unit in the sport in that it inherently works as one position. Moving to another position on the line is far simpler than (as an example) training a DE to drop back into pass coverage and/or play downs as an outside linebacker.

You are describing completely different types of switches. This is akin a LB being moved from the outside to the middle or vice versa. What you described with the defense would be like an OL moving to fullback or tight end.

RE: Norvell Article
This is a very poor article. The reporter forgot one of the major roles of Journalism.....DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE WRITING THE ARTICLE. Here is the comment I sent. Let's see if they post it......
You left a lot of important information out of your article. Doing research is important. 1. Ferguson was ranked the #16 QB in the country in 2013 and had offers from Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, LSU, Michigan and Notre Dame among others. 2. The Memphis backfield is in pretty good shape with former Colorado signee Patrick Taylor and veteran Sam Craft. 3. Memphis has other signees from SEC and Big 12 schools and others who have transferred from those conferences. 4. Norvells's title was DEPUTY HEAD COACH at Arizona State and has held that position since 2013. 5. Memphis has signed a lot of players that were recruited by SEC schools like Ole Miss.

So Gabe Kuhn moving from OG to right tackle is the same from a blocking assignment standpoint? I will respectfully disagree. The assignments and calls are very different. And this is his third position change in three years.

They lost their top 3 WRs and their RB.

I forgot about that guy. I wonder if some NFL team gave him a shot.

Odds are we lose a game we weren't supposed to, due to new staff. I'm hoping we pick up one we weren't supposed to also.
