Quote:UH basketball arena to be named in honor of Tilman Fertitta

The University of Houston will officially announce Thursday Tilman Fertitta, owner of Landry's, Inc., and chairman of UH's board of regents, donated $20 million toward the school's basketball arena renovation project.

The arena will be named in honor of Fertitta, and according to sources one name being seriously considered is Fertitta Center.

In its press release on Tuesday UH said its announcement concerns the largest gift by an individual to UH athletics.

Fertitta has done a lot for Houston, glad his name will be on the arena.

Maybe this guy's got another $20 million to donate to, say, Iowa State or Kansas.

Doggy?

What office building are you talking about? The only office tower his company has ever built is 100% leased to his own company. The Post Oak is currently rising and will have some small office space included but the majority of that tower will be home to a branded hotel, apartments, and convention space/special event space.

The Post Oak area is growing immensely... As if having 4 cities in one.

HOUSTON
1. Downtown
2. Medical Center
3. Post Oak/Galleria
4. Oil & Gas Corridor

It's official. Hofheinz Pavillion will become the Fertitta Center.

Quote:The Fertitta gift is the largest by an individual ever made to the UH athletic program. Renovations will include a VIP entry, premium club and courtside club areas and other amenities that are now standard at most modern arenas. In addition to hosting men's and women's basketball games, the facility will be a center for concerts, Fertitta said, with 70-80 yearly events, when it is completed in 2018.

"The campus is once again going to be a happening place," said Fertitta, who recalled seeing the Eagles, but regretfully not Prince, at Hofheinz when he was a UH student many years ago.

Fertitta added that the renovation would be helpful as UH attempts to secure membership in the Big 12. "One of the things they are going to look at is our facilities," he said. "I think this is a huge step. If we didn't do something like this, it would definitely hurt us."

Here's the latest conceptual rendering.

The top half of the stadium is premium seating. Club, loge boxes.

You can see the student pit right on the court in red, plus the other red section is for students.
