What do you consider to be the greatest 3-5(or however many) Tiger basketball games of all time?

Michigan St and UCLA in 2008 NCAA tourney
Beating Louisville at the Pyramid for the last time and storming the court
1 vs 2 (even though we lost)
Penny years vs Ark

I'm not old enough to really appreciate the Louisville rivalry of the 70s/80s

The answers to these "all time ever" questions are strictly a function of age and memory; neither of which is possible of being representative of "all time."

Second best was 1995 beat of Louisville in NCAA tourney at Austin TX. Maybe 78-54. We had not played them in a while for some reason.

I was at that game in Austin. That was a great trip. We hadn't played them in s few years because we went to Great Midwest and they stayed in Metro.

Beating OU / Tisdale to reach the FF
Beatdowns of Texas, Mich St and UCLA in '08
Beating Arky in the Tomb w/Penny

that would be my five

Can we fit that '95 win over Purdue in somewhere, with the last second tip in by Vaughn?

Or maybe the overtime win over Georgia Tech in '92?

The Providence win in '73?

Tough call.

If you look at that pod in Austin in '95, Memphis beat down Of Louisville was only game of entire pod that was not close.

TX Southern almost beat #2 seed Ark.
Green Bay played #3 Purdue to 1 point game
Syracuse beat Chris Carr and SIU by 4
Syracuse lost to Ark by calling a TO they did not have.
Tigers David Vaughn had last few seconds tip in beat Purdue

Best pod in Tournament history?

Is that the Mem-Ark hand-check game?

That year.

If not for the phantom foul, we were set up to make it to the championship like Arkansas did.

Texas AM sweet 16 game was one of my favorites. AA hitting those fee throws at the end is one of my favorite tiger moments.

Not as high profile, but the comeback win vs Oral Roberts in '87 was pretty amazing!

8 points in 14 seconds......awesome

The Keith Lee Fargo strut game 1982

The Louisville game where someone threw the pocket knife onto the floor

Worst was Al Maguire flipping the bird at the crowd after Marquette won on a half court shot

When was that? I remember AA going to the hole against a 7 footer at the buzzer for the win against Tulsa, but I don't remember him hitting a half court shot.

You are correct. He drove the length of the court and floated it over the outstretched arm of the league's best shot blocker, what's his name.

RE: Greatest games in Tiger hoops history?
No one has mentioned the Memphis beat down of Georgetown & P. Ewing in '83.

Also of great significance to our university, the season that originally made Memphis basketball known across the nation, the 1956-57 Memphis St Tigers, 24-6, final AP poll ranked #12 & a one-pt loss to Bradley in NIT semifinals. You youngsters usually point to the teams of Calipari but there were some great teams under Vanatta, Bartow, Finch & Kirk. And maybe one of the best Tiger squads ever was Finch's '86-'87 squad on NCAA probation (Kirk) that was unable to compete in the post-season. That was as good a "team" as I've ever witnessed in a Tiger uniform. This was the team that completed the Louisville beatdown in the Metro Tourney 75-52, after beating Cincy & South Car. A real shame they couldn't compete in the NCAA.

One of my favorites was the "Dirty Sanchez game" vs Gonzaga with Adam Morrison in December 2005

Beating UCLA in the final four in 2008 brought some measure of redemption for the loss to UCLA in the title game vs Bill Walton in 1973.
