Mohajir on Realignment, Midweek games, softball etc
Not a ton said since it was a long interview about mostly other subjects.

"We are flattered to be even listed among the 17 schools interested in the Big 12."

"He keeps hearing comments about why we're not in the same league as Houston, TCU etc. Wants to know why not? That's where we are working to be"

"We remain happy with our current membership in the Sun Belt Conference, which has been good to us for 15 years of football"

"Arkansas State has no interest in joining Conference USA in its current alignment. Been there, done that with all of those teams."

"We would be very interested in a geographically realigned version of the G5 leagues, and he still thinks that is the best way for the G5 to succeed in the future."

Midweek games:

He does not like midweek games, thinks they are terrible for attendance, however in this case it is the best way to get exposure on a major TV network.

ESPN has complete control of which games are selected for Tuesday Night. Sun Belt does not have a say. In the case of Friday Night games, ESPN requested the move, and we agreed after researching the success of Friday Night games.

He hopes a marquee opponent in Georgia Southern for our Wednesday Night game will help bring eyeballs to the league to watch what will be an exciting football game.

Future Plans

Still behind in facility enhancement. Once the End Zone complex for football is complete, the plan is to build a new baseball facility.

The school hopes to be able to add Softball in the near future and build them a facility.

RE: Mohajir on Realignment, Midweek games, softball etc
Don't know if GS will really be a big draw for StAte fans. It might be a big game but we're still the newbs.

My only complaint about the midweek games is that it seems like we are getting more than our fair share of weekday home games.

We have 5 weekday home games for 2014, 2015, and 2016.
ULL, Arkansas State, and App State have all had 2 apiece over those 3 years.

ESPN must really like showing games in Paulson Stadium for some reason.

One correction-Terry actually said "no" to the prospect of moving our Toledo game to a Friday however ESPN invoked their contractual right to move the game for TV.

ESPN wanted to do the same for App-Miami, App said no, I'm glad Miami agreed not to move it. Sorry guys.

I'm so happy TXST was dropped from midweek games. They are the worst. They killed or attendance.

Yeah, I'm sure it was midweek games that killed your attendance. The terrible football had nothing to do with it.

Thankfully it's not the worst Friday Night for us. It's opening week of High School season, but all 4 Jonesboro High Schools are either on the road or play earlier in the week.

It will hurt, but probably not as much as it would have a few weeks later.

If I'm not mistaken, last year AstAte did not have a single game on a Saturday in the month of October.

It was bad from several angles. Attendance, weather, basically unknown opponents and I think we lost every weekday game we've played (have to check that).

I like Mohajir, but some of these statements are pretty lame.

I'm betting there are far more than 17 teams that are "interested" in the Big XII. But because they have no shot, like A State, not everyone tossed their name in the hat. So it's flattering to be on a list you put your name on?

Other than alumni where are the comments about being in the same league as Houston, TCU, ect coming from? AD's from the AAC?

Everyone (except La Tech) is interested in "geographically realigned version of the G5 leagues".

He "still thinks that is the best way for the G5 to succeed in the future." I'm glad someone in an influential position has finally come around to saying what I've been preaching for 3 years. The good thing is he's not getting hammered for saying it. I love validation. Yes I'm patting myself on the back.

We preach as a program that teams like Houston are example of "peer schools" to us. You'll hear similar comments out of us a bunch.

One thing I've been trying to figure out since the talk about stAte and the 12 started was if they were asked to submit or just ran out there and did it. I've found nothing to say they weren't asked. Either way, it has worked out well for them in a PR sense. Whether you're a fan of Mohajir or not, you have to give him points for doing his job very well.
