Tubby's overall record and B12 record actually went down in his second season, so it wasn't record improving per se.

My definition of a winning coach is one who left the program a lot better than when he found it.. Did Tubby take a doormat big 12 team and take them to the NCAA tournament-- I believe so.

The jury is still out for me on Tubby, so I will have to wait and see.

You both have a case. TT was a little bit of a dumpster fire and required a rebuild. Beard is getting a renovated TT program with Smith gone. Granted a renovated TT hoops program is still TT hoops, so there is a limit of expectations there.

I'd say Smith won at TT due to the rebuild curve of getting a bad situation to start. You could credibly discount that with 46-50 and I won't argue.

Again, the emphasis on the progress / situation vs. the record only.

It's not like either case is wrong. Technically 46-50 is not winning. But I'm willing to curve on situation...

Like I stated above, his record went down in his second year - overall and in league play.

And in that third season, they were 9-9 in the league and finished 7th out of 10 teams. They lost to 12-win TCU in the first round of the B12 tourney. Their RPI was 36th. Overall, they were 19-12. Their good wins according to the RPI ratings were all to conference teams. The OOC schedule was a pile of dog crap - beat 8 win Minnesota, lost to 16 win Arkansas, etc.
