Not many, including UofL came into the conference as a name. Hell during the 90s most of UofL's highest attendance games were vs 1AA Western. That's how bad they were.

Don't know how much you know about the original C-USA, but it was a basketball conference.

UL, Cinci, Depaul, Marquette, Charlotte, Memphis, Houston, etc.

USM was brought into the conference to help strengthen the football side of things.

Sports are cyclical. LSU was terrible in the 90's. Bama was terrible in the early 2000's. Auburn wasn't good in the mid 90's. But we still beat those teams and took pride in it.

Don't get it twisted. USM dominated C-USA when it first came about....As we should have.

Towards the end of the first C-USA run, you could see what some schools like UL were doing when it came to football and you could tell they had a lot more money than USM, but that didn't stop us from winning and/or being competitive against those schools.

Louisville/USM games were ALWAYS the best conference game of the year, IMO.

USM has done it three times, Nostradamus. Try again.

This thread reads like a JMU forum about how things were so great in the past.

not only that your mind seems to be slipping because it's been about 10 years now since CUSA was "considered good"

Went from 2005 to 2009 without a team finishing the season in the top 25...

Just in case some of you can't count...that's 5 seasons after UofL, Cincy, & TCU left without having one team that was good enough to finish in the top 25.

If you wasn't winning before those schools left and then some how started winning....maybe, just maybe, you were winning because those 3 schools beat the crap out of you.

Houston had THREE winning seasons out of 10 and 2 of those were a 1 game swing before those schools left. Hell Houston had 3 winning seasons in the previous 15 before those schools left CUSA. So maybe the conference dropped down to their level instead of CUSA "being good".

ECU had a winning season 4 out of 10 times and just like Houston 2 of those were a 1 game swing . So maybe the conference dropped down to their level instead of CUSA "being good".

Then lets jump forward to when the next group left....

if you wasn't winning before those schools left the conference..then started winning. Maybe there's a reason for that and it not that you "got good".

CUSA had a school ranked in the finial AP poll 2 out of the previous 9 seasons before Western joined CUSA and 2 out of 8 before most of the others joined this conference.

So it's been a LONG LONG LONG TIME since CUSA was "considered good" or one of the "best conferences". Hell Marshall wasn't even in CUSA when it was one of the "best conferences"

Maybe if you are winning today and not when those other schools left...

you should be thinking them for leaving. There is a reason you were left behind. Well a few but getting your brains beat out might have played a role in it.

The good old days...we all love to look back on! The only thing, most of the time, they really don't look the way we remember them.

ECU had 7 winning seasons,do not know where you get your stats from.CUSA and Mwc were consistently considered the best non BCS conferences.

Not before UofL, Cincy and TCU left....

I have no idea what you are talking about, your stats are wrong.
USM and Marshall are big reasons why Cusa was a conference WKU wanted to join. Not sure why you are critical of these schools that on a national stage are better known than Wku.

Actually, for me.....UAB, USM, LaTech, ODU, Charlotte, UTEP and yes, even MTSU were the reasons I wanted WKU to join CUSA.

Those are the numbers where CUSA was ranked as a conference for those years....

This has nothing to do with S. Miss (other than the minds of a few fans) or Marshall. It has everything to do with after the first 3 programs left....

CUSA has basically stayed in their place. No matter what schools made up the conference. As for Marshall...they were not in CUSA when it was really considered "good"
