Seahawks Welcome No. 5 Charlotte on Tuesday
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – The UNCW men's soccer team returns home on Tuesday night to welcome No. 9 Charlotte for a 7 p.m. non-conference game at UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks had their season-opening four-game win streak snapped on Saturday with a 5-0 loss at Florida Gulf Coast. Sophomore goalkeeper Ryan Cretens tallied a season-high five saves for UNCW, which outshot the Eagles by a 16-12 margin.
Junior forwards Julio Moncada and Stian Sandbekkhaug have combined to score eight of the Seahawks' 12 goals in five games this season. Moncada leads the team with nine points after scoring four goals with an assist while Sandbekkhaug, a transfer from Valparaiso, has contributed four goals.
Off to a 4-0-0 start, the 49ers visit the Port City after earning their first Conference USA win of the season with a 2-0 victory at Old Dominion on Saturday night. Charlotte, which is one of three teams in NCAA Division I without a loss or tie this season, has outscored its opponents by a 12-0 margin through the first four games.
Charlotte leads the all-time series by an 8-5-3 margin and has won four of the last five encounters.
After Tuesday's game, the Seahawks open Colonial Athletic Association play at home against William & Mary on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 7 p.m.
