ya think????
it easily falls under the 'no shite' category.....
it's a pointless discussion.....
however, its a bbs.....so we have that 'workings'
Tulane apparently made the cut and is being vetted deeply, per Oklahoma sources... soooooo, anything can happen?

lol at that undersizing in acquisition...but yeah, anything is plausible in this battering ram or ringing the bell...
Obviously i expect NIU is out of the running already, but the fact that uncommon candidates SMU and Tulane made the first cut (and there are still rumors that the list contains some surprise names... my guess is CSU) means the B12 is a mess regardless of who gets invited

SMU and Tulane are some of the last G5 programs to have been in a P5 conference at one point in time. Rice being another. Tulane, up until about 5 years ago was the only team in Louisiana that could get LSU to play them at home. Billions of Dollars in endowments, A Reputation for Elite Education and a past history with the big boys go a long ways. The funny thing it that Tulane left the SEC not the other way around. Go figure.

ECU no longer being considered for Big 12
Charlotte Observer -College Sports August 31, 2016 9:56 AM
From staff reports
The Big 12 is no longer considering East Carolina as an expansion candidate, the school announced Wednesday.
“While it is obviously not the decision we were hoping for, I am confident ECU put forth its best effort during this process,” Jeff Compher, ECU’s athletic director, said in a statement. “Through a determined approach we were able to tell our story to not only the Big 12, but the entire nation.”
Sorry, ECU. You have a fine program and awesome Fan Support. But, seriously this can not be a surprise. Can't believe West Virginia would want the competition for recruits, and your TV Market is too small (meaning ESPN doesn't want you, either).

I read an an autobiography by Dave Dixon who was a Big Time Tulane Supporter. He said that it was decided sometime around 1949 by the Tulane Administration to focus solely on Academics and to put sports on the back burner. They would spend another 17 years in the cellar before deciding to become an Independent. This was way before big Tv contracts and the mega money that we know now. Half of College Football seemed to be doing the independent rout, so finding games wasn't hard. Hind Sight being 20-20, they through away a winning lottery ticket.
