pretty simple

They can't. The free streams were in violation of existing contracts. Plus, do you really think free radio streams will grow the fan base? Does ANYONE who is not already a fan seek out a streaming broadcast and listen to it? I can see how TV exposure would help (and even streaming on the ESPN app), but I can't imagine anyone would ever just stumble into a streamed radio broadcast and decide to be a fan.

Myopic view of building a fan base, IMO. Probably not one event that usually creates a fan. Things during formative years probably have a lot to do with it. Games you go to and watch. Players you relate to. And you may listen to games with your parents. It all goes into the formula.

Our radio network is not up to par. Availability is minimal - whether streaming or satellite or airwaves. And quality is, well, ... Radio may not create fans, typically at most places. But I can guarantee you that our radio contributes nothing to building a fan base.

kind of sucks for those of us who live outside the region. 01-lauramac201-lauramac201-lauramac2

at least those in or around Memphis can catch the games on Rock103 this year. audio quality should be much better in that case.

I'm really surprised and disappointed that Memphis hasn't converted to XM Radio. That's not free either, but you get a lot more for your money if you subscribe and can pick it up anywhere.

The conference has many games on XM. That's probably a cost that isn't something the school is likely to be able to afford, but the conference can.

RE: Tiger Games on the Radio
In short answer to does anyone believe anew fan can be made through streaming a radio broadcast?
Yes.
The curiosity of the local flavor when moving to the area.
The local "talk" of the Tiger team will create this.

Did you know that new locals in Arlington and eastward, some Tipton cty. and northward could not pick up broadcasts on the station?
These are local people, and it's your train of thought that has continued to make this situation ridiculous.
Let's hope broadcasting on an fm station this year changes that.

Also, are you aware that subscribing to GTG, DOES NOT provide the pre and post game shows?
I am. I subscribed several seasons in the past(incl. for a brief time last season).
I did get part of the post game presser, but NOT the post game show. The pre and post game shows are labeled as "premium content". Yet they are not streamed.

I feel I have been "sold out" as one who MUST depend on streaming to hear these shows.
If you feel no new fan candidate wouldn't want to hear these shows that provide "local flavor", you're wayyyyy out of touch.

And to the guy that feels he's provided a better experience at Yahoo than the radio, you just keep on enjoying that.
At least you have a choice.
