2016 Massey Ratings Predictions Sunbelt
Massey ratings project Georgia Southern rolling through the conference (including tripping up App State) and winning the Belt outright yet again in '16. Also have Troy being the surprise team of the year, bouncing from a 4 win year in 2015 to 4th place with 7 wins.

1. Georgia Southern 9-3 (8-0)

2. Appalachian State 9-3 (7-1)

3. Arkansas State 8-4 (7-1)

4. Troy Trojans 7-5 (5-3)

5. Georgia State 6-6 (5-3)

6. South Alabama 5-7 (4-4)

7. UL-Lafayette 5-7 (4-4)

8. Idaho 3-9 (2-6)

9. Texas State 5-7 (3-5)

10. NMSU 1-11 (1-7)

11. ULM 1-11 (0-8)

It would be nice. With our schedule, we'll know something pretty quick.

I just don't see us losing 3 ooc games and then going perfect in conference.

true, app and stAte will likely be harder teams to beat than WMU. And if we are on that kind of a roll that we are winning that much, good shot we beat GT too. Oh well. Only time will tell

Did the ratings indicate if there would be a mandatory asterisk next to GS's conference record, as there was for 2014? Or does only App get that this year? Do you even get an asterisk if you don't win the conference?

The only way we go 3-9 is if Linehan goes down very early.

RE: 2016 Massey Ratings Predictions Sunbelt
I think most App fans realize that anyone among 3-4 teams could be picked to win the title. In the end, the title isn't won in the preseason. We certainly have many question that need to be answered before we can worry a SBC championship. The fact that we go to GS gives them a leg up.

For me, the interesting game for Idaho is your road game at UNLV. Win it and you'll have a shot at a bowl.

Winnable home games: Montana State, Troy, USA, Ga State, NMSU
Winnable road games: Texas State, UNLV, ULM

You guys need to win on the road to get to a bowl.

That's about right, although I haven't completely written off the game @ULL. The only conference game I have down as just about unwinnable is @App. I also have @UW and @WSU down as sure losses. So I have absolute, everything goes perfectly, best-case scenario as 9-3 and worst-case, Linehan-goes-down-in-Week-1 as 3-9. 6-6 feels about right for this team. I definitely have @UNLV as our biggest non-conference swing game. Win that and I feel great about the rest of the year.

Encouraging words out of camp about improved defensive depth but I'll believe it when I see it. Secondary should be fine and LBs should be adequate but the DL scares me.

Thank goodness we aren't picked to win. But Jennings will make a difference as well as the JUCO OT we just picked up.

I don't think App fans would be surprised by a record from 7-5 to 10-2. We have a tough schedule and play on paper thought conference games on the road.

This is only our third year in the FBS and depth may prove to be a problem at some point still.

Did anyone else notice that they have 46 conference wins, but only 42 conference losses in their projections? Hmmm, is this high quality or what?01-wingedeagle

I don't know what our record will be, but I would be shocked if ULM only wins 1 game and none in conference.

Ark St has to be the favorite. They are defending champions, they host GS, App travels to GS, and App & Ark St don't meet. Besides, Ark St has the best collection of talent and depth in FBS so the only real question is if the rest of the conference even shows up for any other reason other than to ask for autographs and selfies.
