Mike Norvell on QB Riley Ferguson, "His command of the offense-the way guys look at him. He's putting himself in great position (to start)."

RE: AAC Football Offseason videos, fall camp, practice reports
houston having some interesting depth/injury issues

Houston is deep at WR because we used to run an air raid just a few years back but levine (old coach) recruited all of them (NFL size, 6'1+). we used 4 wr under levine and all 4 were interchangeable..and regularly used outside WRs on the inside

herman uses 3wr and a TE and is very particular on where each play..he likes his outside WR lined up outside and inside WRs line up inside..
Houston has legit 8 or 9 high 3star/4star Outside receivers..but are thin on true inside guys

our projected inside starter (4star transfer rashaad samples), he is technically an outside wr but he can play both and has the body to play inside: got his second concussion this offseason. he is expected back by game 1 but if he gets another he could be out for the season

projected back up: true fresh stevenson, the only true inside wr on the roster, just got injured and will definitely miss the first month of the season, could miss 2 (and at that point he might be redshirted)

the only other player that can fit the inside wr role on our roster is our 4star qb deriq king (who was offered by clemson and usc as an inside wr)..he will move to wr till january and is expected to play if he can master the switch seemlessly

if king doesnt work we will use our Outside guys on the inside

FWIW: QB Brady Davis sustained a knee injury in the scrimmage this morning and is being evaluated. TE Kyle Oliver injured his shoulder.

Quote:After redshirting his first season, quarterback Brady Davis will miss the rest of the season with a knee injury, head coach Mike Norvell announced today.[br][br]Davis committed to former head coach Justin Fuente as a highly-touted three-star quarterback out of Columbus, Mississippi. According to the 247Sports Composite Rankings, he was the 39th ranked pro-style quarterback in the nation, and he was ranked 26th in he state of Mississippi.[br][br]Memphis wasn't the program chasing Davis, though. He had recieved interest from other big time programs like Mississippi State, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss. He had other offers from Louisiana Tech, Southern Miss and USF.[br][br]The 6-foot-3, 195 pound quarterback has been fighting for the starting quarterback spot left vacant by Paxton Lynch since the spring. Before his injury, it appeared he was close to solidifying the number 2 spot on the depth chart. [br][br]College football media reacts to release of preseason AP Top 25Start SlideShow[br]Junior quarterback Riley Ferguson was named the starter yesterday. Davis' injury could also have an impact on true freshman quarterback David Moore.

Also worth noting: CB Kam Prewitt, who was suspended for fall camp, returned to practice today.

RE: AAC Football Offseason videos, fall camp, practice reports
Quote:It has been quite the ride for East St. John wide receiver Da'Monte Coxie, as the former LSU commit will make his last stop at Memphis, where he is set to enroll for classes.

The 6-foot-3, 185-pounder was a long-time LSU commitment, but due to an academic situation that caused Coxie to be a late qualifier, the Tigers were not an option this late in the process. Alabama and other programs were keeping tabs on Coxie, but ultimately it was Memphis University that extended an offer to the playmaker.

"I am feeling a sense of relief," Coxie said. "I'm ready to ball and that is about it."

Coxie will be an academic redshirt for the Tigers this fall, which is the least of his worries, considering everything he has gone through to this point.

Coxie transferred to East St. John for his senior season, with his academic standing being the biggest question mark surrounding his future. LSU hoped Coxie could get everything in order before the finish of his senior year, but the prep standout's classes carried into the summer months, leaving him with very few options once completed.

He was in talks with junior colleges as he prepared to go that route if need be, but after passing all of his summer courses, Coxie found himself as a college qualifier, although he will have to take an academic redshirt his first year on campus.

Coxie and his family are currently en route to Memphis, where he will be greeted by wide receivers coach David Johnson, a New Orleans native.
