RE: Broncos crack Freep's preseason Top 25
WTF?!?! Us, #25?!?!!?
Okay, this is the Detroit Free Press. But still. What, did they put EMU at #60??

I'm sure DB only dreams of such 'isms flowing out like fine wine if we fulfill such fantasies... :)

This sort of regional support is all part of raising a program to the national consciousness.

I noticed USA Today, when breaking down the MAC, has us at #32, which isn't much different.

Although, national consciousness? We beat NW -- then we'll get some. Until then, I don't expect any. Just want respectable games OOC -- to go 2-2, and not be any worse than 6-2 in conference. That is my neutral-feeling "par". I won't be happy but won't be pissed at 8-4 Regular season... would be better than last year, but I would be happy at 9-3 going 7-1 in the MAC and 2-2 Non-Conf.

Cue what do preseason polls have to do with wins on the field.

So, are we ranked after we beat NW by 10?

No, but recognized (although we would get votes and I'm sure be ranked #26-to-about-40 in the #-of-votes section). With PJ's media attention-getting, and us being seen as a possible G5 darling, it'd get the fire started, that's for sure. In the first several weeks, the press is looking for G5/P5 upsets due to all the matchups.

The first coaches' poll doesn't even put the Broncos on the map. Maybe some PJ envy involved with that, considering Toledo got two votes and NIU one.

Yep, I wouldn't have expected it. Oh, maybe 1 vote, but 1 vote don't mean anything anyway -- but it does get a little attention:
COACHES POLL (Relevant Teams):
#5 Ohio State
#8 Michigan
#9 Notre Dame
#11 Michigan State
#13 Houston
#29 Boise State
#34 Northwestern
#35 Navy
#37 San Diego State
#40 Western Kentucky (11)
#42 BYU (6)
#43 Appalachian State (4)
#45 South Florida (2)
#45 Marshall (2)
#45 Toledo (2)
#49 Northern Illinois (1)
#49 Memphis (1)
.... if we beat @Northwestern, with all the PJ-hype, I figure we'd jump in around 40, maybe high 30s. It'd be more like "Well, maybe NW isn't that good...," until more games unfolded.

NW will probably be about a 7 or 8 win team finishing 4th in the Big 10 West.
